'The Voice' Announces Big Schedule Changes
Amid slipping ratings, NBC announced some significant schedule changes for its popular singing competition, "The Voice."
As soon as the final five contestants on season 27 of âThe Voiceâ are whittled down to one winner on May 20, 2025, the showâs producers will leap into preparations for season 28, likely to start filming within weeks of the finale. During the last two years, NBC has filmed back-to-back seasons each summer.
NBC has already announced that season 28 will include a big coaching change, with Michael BublĂ© as the only coach from season 27 returning. Heâll be joined by Snoop Dogg, Reba McEntire, and Niall Horan. But there are scheduling changes in the works, too, that could be a bit challenging for fans to navigate this fall.

The schedule for âThe Voiceâ during the fall of 2025 could throw fans for a loop as NBC tries to squeeze in NBC games and its popular sitcoms, including the second season of McEntireâs âHappyâs Place.â
According to Deadline, the two-hour season 28 premiere of âThe Voiceâ is expected to take place on Tuesday, September 16. The night before, NBC will air the âAmericaâs Got Talentâ season finale. But after that â at least for the remainder of September â âThe Voiceâ will follow its usual format, with two-hour shows on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The schedule starts to shift in October. NBA games are moving to NBC, which means âThe Voiceâ will begin airing just one night a week, with two-hour shows on Mondays only. There will be no recap episodes on Tuesdays, as has been common during season 27.
Fans will get even less of âThe Voiceâ in November, per Deadline, when those two-hour Monday night shows get squeezed down to just one-hour episodes. Meanwhile, December is currently a bit of wild card because the NBA schedule set in stone yet. Depending on how that shakes out, Deadline reported there may be some episodes of âThe Voiceâ that air on Tuesdays that month.
NBC John Legend, Michael BublĂ©, Kelsea Ballerini, and Adam Levine on âThe VoiceâAlthough season 27 of âThe Voiceâ got off to a good start with an earlier-than-normal premiere in early February, its ratings slipped significantly, according to Collider, especially after its biggest competitor â âAmerican Idolâ on ABC â kicked off in early March.
In February and early March, âThe Voiceâ topped Monday night ratings, Collider reported, drawing over five million people per episode during its first seven weeks on-air. But by late March, âIdolâ had taken over and in early April, âThe Voiceâ ratings had dropped by 27%.
Itâs not known yet how the May 12 and 13 semifinals did in the ratings, but according to data published by TV Series Finale, the first round of âThe Voiceâ playoffs on May 5 drew one of the lowest audiences of the season, with just 3.5 million tuning in.
Halle Bailey was granted sole physical and legal custody of her and ex DDGâs son Halo until June 4 after filing for a restraining order against the rapper, according to docs obtained by E! News.
