Dan Bongino, Deputy Director of the FBI, recently announced that the bureau is going to release information that has, up until now, been kept secret, including several cases that many citizens believe were stashed away due to political or institutional reasons.
Bongino, who previously served as both a police officer and a Secret Service agent before becoming a conservative political commentator, shared on X that his office is already working with Congress and the public to provide the long-requested information. One of the cases in the bunch being released is the attempted assassination of Rep. Steve Scalise, who was almost killed by a gunman during practice for a congressional baseball game.
Other cases being highlighted are the Nashville Christian school shooting, the infamous âCrossfire Hurricaneâ investigation, and the origins of the coronavirus.
âCrossfire Hurricane was the name of the investigation into President Donald Trumpâs alleged collusion with Russia to steal the 2016 election, a narrative that turned out to have been completely fabricated with the assistance of his then-rival, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton,â The Conservative Brief reported.
âIn just the couple of months since weâve been sworn in, weâve responded to requests for information on the attack on Rep. Scalise and members of Congress, the Nashville attack, Crossfire Hurricane, the COVID cover-up and more. We are working with the DOJ on the [Jeffrey] Epstein case and, as the AG [Pam Bondi] stated, there are voluminous amounts of downloaded child sexual abuse material that we are dealing with,â Bongino said in the long post.
âThere are also victimsâ statements that are entitled to specific protections. We need to do this correctly, but I do understand the publicâs desire to get the information out there,â he added.
The bureau is also putting together a multi-agency security team to protect Bongino around the clock, including while heâs inside agency headquarters. A message sent to FBI agents last week requested volunteers to temporarily leave their current roles and serve on a protective security detail for the former Secret Service agent.
âThe canvass sought agents willing to relocate for 30 days of temporary duty to provide round-the-clock protection for Bongino, according to two former FBI officials familiar with security details. Full-time protection could require as many as 20 agents, they noted,â the article said.
Two former officials with the FBI revealed that the current bodyguards serving as Bonginoâs protection detail have gone with him inside secure bureau facilities, including the agencyâs headquarters located in the nationâs capital. According to the officials, most directors walk around inside the building without a detail.
Bongino could choose to be qualified to carry his own weapon, but as of now, heâs opted to have a security detail instead.
