A British tourist is fighting for his life after falling from a hotel balcony in Ayia Napa, Cyprus. The 24-year-old was rushed to Famagusta Hospital in Paralimni, before being urgently transferred to Nicosia General Hospital after the fall at about 8pm on Sunday (June 15).

Doctors have said he is in a serious condition and police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fall. It comes after another British tourist fell from a hotel balcony in Puerto Banus near Marbella.

The man reportedly fell from a first-floor balcony at the Hard Rock Hotel on May 27, according to the Mirror.

He was rushed to Costa del Sol Hospital before being transferred to Regional University Hospital, Malaga, due to the severity of his injuries.

Three friends who were with him at the time have been questioned by police as investigations into that incident continue.

Reports claim the man’s friends didn't know he had fallen until police knocked on their hotel room door to tell them.

The pals were reportedly asleep when the incident happened in the early hours.

Official authorities have yet to issue a statement but sources say the fall is not being treated as a case of "balconing".

This is the dangerous trend where thrill-seeking tourists jump between balconies or dive into pools from hotel rooms.

Brits heading to Ibiza were issued a warning in April about the dangers of jumping off balconies after a number of tragedies.

A set of byelaws was recently introduced to Sant Antoni, Platja de Palma, S'Arenal de Lluchmajor and Magaluf in a bid to stamp out the craze.

The laws apply to "activities considered dangerous to the physical integrity of people". This includes "jumping into the void from balconies or windows" and "accessing rooms or rooms from other balconies".
