Cardi B isn’t holding back when it comes to reflecting on her breakup with Offset.
Fresh off the heels of publicly confirming her new relationship with NFL player Stefon Diggs, the Grammy-winning rapper took to X Spaces on Tuesday (June 3) where she spoke candidly about her mental state during her marriage to Offset, and why stepping away saved her peace—and possibly her freedom.
“If I was still there, I was going to end up going to jail, ‘cause I was going to end up killing them,” Cardi told fans. “Seriously, with my own bare hands. ‘Cause it was just getting too much.”
The Bronx native said she felt “mentally drained” and “paranoid” from the toll of repeated infidelity and “constant lies, the gaslighting.” At one point, she said, even her managers suggested therapy due to her declining mental health. “I was literally losing my mind,” she repeated.
The “WAP” emcee explained that the decision to finally walk away from the Migos rapper, whom she married in 2017 and divorced again in 2024 after several reconciliations, wasn’t just about cheating. “I gave it chances after chances,” she said. “I was so depressed.”
The former couple welcomed their second child, Blossom, last year before officially calling it quits.
Now, Cardi says she’s in a much healthier place. “I’m very happy… it’s like I’m learning how to do things,” she said, revealing that dating again, especially with Diggs, 31, feels new and refreshing. “I built a friendship first. I haven’t been this happy in a very, very long time.”
Addressing the backlash since going public with Diggs, Cardi said, “I do not understand why I'm getting so much disgusting hate from men… I was married for seven years and was faithful.”
“I went through a lot of f---ing trauma. “And I had to learn myself. Before I even got with somebody, I had to learn myself,” she added elsewhere. “Let me share that because this is really my life that everybody having a f---ing opinion on. So shut the f--- up.”
