“The Power of Love” singer — who competed and won the Eurovision Song Contest with Switzerland in 1988 — shared a special message with fans at the latest event, held in Basel, Switzerland on Tuesday, May 13.
“I’d love nothing more than to be with you in Basel right now,” Dion told the audience in a pre-recorded video, shared on X. “Switzerland will forever hold a special place in my heart. It’s the country that believed in me and gave me the chance to be part of something so extraordinary.”
The Grammy winner went on to describe her Eurovision win as a “life-changing moment,” and said that “37 years later” it was “so beautiful to see Switzerland winning and hosting this incredible event once again.”

“To the people of Switzerland. Thank you for your love,” she said. “This night is yours and I hope you feel as proud as I do.”
She concluded her message in French, saying, per CNN: “Music unites us, not only this evening, not only at the moment. Wonderful. It is our strength, our support and our support in the moments where we need it. I love you all, Europe and the rest of the world, of course. Kisses, I love you.”
Following her message, several singers from last year’s contest took the stage to perform a cover of Dion’s winning song “Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi” from 1988, according to the outlet. Following her win in Eurovision, she would go on to create her first English language album Unison.

After canceling a planned Las Vegas residency and tour dates in late 2021 and 2022, Dion announced she was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune and neurological disorder stiff-person syndrome in August 2022, that forced her to retreat from the spotlight.
However, she has slowly been making public appearances here and there recently. Last year, she notably closed the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony — marking the first time she performed publicly since her diagnosis — with a stunning rendition of Édith Piaf's song "Hymne A L'Amour" (Hymn to Love), which she sang live from the base of the Eiffel Tower.
Dion also hit the stage in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in November 2024 to perform at the 1001 Seasons of Elie Saab fashion show in celebration of the Lebanese designer's 45-year fashion career. She closed out the ceremony with her 1993 hit “The Power of Love” and 2002’s “I’m Alive,” as she sported a glamorous pink floor-length gown, embellished with sequins.
The “New Day” songstress opened up about her diagnosis in-depth in her 2024 Prime Video documentary, I Am: Céline Dion, in which she noted that she wanted to show her children René-Charles, 24, and 14-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy that she wasn’t giving up — and had been working hard to return to the stage for her fans.
"I miss it so much. The people, I miss them," she said in the documentary. "If I can't run, I'll walk. If I can't walk, I'll crawl ... I won't stop."
