Alliances were made, strategies began to form and one player was eliminated on the roller-coaster premiere of NBC’s Destination X.

In the all-new reality competition show, 10 competitors hit the road for a wild journey through Europe as they fight to take home the $250,000 cash prize. All they have to do is answer one question: where the X am I?

But before the game even officially began, contestant Ally Bross had hearts in her eyes as she appeared to flirt with fellow player Josh Martinez.

“Every guy I meet, I tend to think is my husband,” she joked in a confessional. “And then, like, 10 days later, I’m like, ‘scratch that, he was not my husband.’ … I’m just a lover girl.”

Unfortunately, there wasn’t too much time for a “get-to-know-you” chat. Shortly after their arrival, the contestants faced their first challenge.

“Right here are 50 identical suitcases. Each of them has a tag on them that relates to a European country,” show host Jeffrey Dean Morgan said. “Now, all you have to do is grab a case, collect the tag, then throw it in the correct luggage cart. Whoever matches the most cases with the correct country is gonna win the very first clue … and not only that, because I am feeling extra friggin’ generous, the winner will also pick someone to see that clue with them.”

Wasting no time, Ally and Mack Fitzgerald immediately teamed up, agreeing to share tags and the subsequent clue if they won.

In a confessional, Mack revealed that her sneaky strategy was to form an alliance with “the dumbest person” there so that she could “feed them information, get them to trust me,” and then “sacrifice them” later in the game.

But Ally proved it might be best not to underestimate her. During their mad dash to match the suitcases with the right countries, Rick Szabo dropped one of his luggage tags and Ally immediately scooped it up as her own.

While Biggy Bailey came close to the win by getting six correct tags all on his own, Ally and Mack won the clue with a combined seven tags.

On the Road on the ‘Destination X’ Bus and the 1st Clue

Following their first challenge, Jeffrey led the players to the Destination X bus – a vehicle with blacked out windows that would make it impossible for them to see their surroundings as they hit the road. The bus is where they are set to live as a group for the remainder of the game.

As they made their way to their first destination, the contestants took a moment to get to know each other a little better. Josh revealed this was not his first tv show and that he’d “made it pretty far” on Big Brother.

Tai Lowry, Mack and Ally also discussed “threats” among the other players and mentioned Josh and Biggy. Meanwhile, the guys talked about Mack and Ally’s whirlwind alliance and how they’d nabbed Rick’s luggage tag.

Later, Ally and Mack were blindfolded and dropped in the ruins of Volterra for their first clue. They decided they may be in Italy, as Ally pointed out, “This just looks so Roman.” However, back at the bus, they told the other players that they were “really confused” about where they were and that they saw a lot of “tourists” and “people with cameras.”

Ally and Mack later chose to tell Rick the truth about what they saw.

The Wishing Well Challenge on ‘Destination X’

This brought the contestants to their second challenge – and it took place “eight stories underground.”

“For over 500 years, locals have been throwing coins into this medieval well to make a wish. But now, five coins are missing,” Jeffrey told the group. “The five missing coins are hidden in the town above you, so in this challenge, your job is to find them … Each coin your team finds in the town will grant you one wish, to send a player from the opposing team to the map room where someone will be eliminated.”

With Mack and Ally leading the way as opposing team captains, Biggy and Mack both agree to be the “searchers.” As they waited above ground, the rest of the contestants were tasked with sorting through coins and solving riddles in the well.

Biggy was released to search for his coin first. He quickly solved his own riddle that led him to a small shop filled with Pinocchio dolls and Mack followed soon after. Despite having a head start, he failed to find the coin in one of the toys’ pockets and Mack was able to snag it first. Round two of the game had both players convinced the answer was tea, but Biggy finally found the coin in an olive tree, making both teams even with one coin each.

However, Mack came out ahead in round three when she correctly guessed the roman numerals for 154 – earning her team three coins.

Destination X’s 1st Elimination

“10 players have reached the end of the first leg of our journey and five of them are about to enter my map room for the first time and place an X where they think we are,” Jeffrey said to the contestants. “Whoever’s X is furthest away will be leaving my bus for good.”

Since Mack’s team earned a total of four coins, she chose Tai, Josh, Biggy and Shayne Cureton to go to the map room, while Ally chose Rachel Rossette.

As Josh stood up to walk to the map room and place his X, Rick stopped him and told him that he was “pretty sure” they were in Milan in Italy. The Big Brother alum said in a confessional that he’d previously been certain they were in Rome. Despite his confusion, Josh decided to trust Rick and placed his X on Milan – making him the player who chose a spot the furthest away from their actual destination.

Before he was kicked off the bus, Josh told Rick that he “played that really well” and gave the other players a firm warning.

“Be careful, trust your gut,” he said. “Whatever you do, do not trust a single word that Rick is saying. Rick is a snake. Watch your back with him.”

Watch Destination X on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC or catch it streaming the next day on Peacock.
