Fans React To Jessica Simpson's 'American Idol' Moment
Jessica Simpson lights up the "American Idol" stage in her first TV appearance in 15 years, stunning fans with a powerful performance.
Jessica Simpson is back on TV for the first time in 15 years. The singer, 44, performed on the âAmerican Idolâ Season 23 finale on Sunday, May 18.
Simpson stepped out on stage in a stunning sparkly dress with a high slit. She also debuted dirty blonde locksâa subtle yet striking shift from her signature platinum blonde hair.
For her first performance, Simpson sang her brand new single âBlame Me.â She was later joined by eliminated contestant Josh King for a crowd-pleasing duet of her iconic 2005 rendition of âThese Boots Are Made for Walkinâ.â
Simpson has been gearing up for her big TV comeback. On Sunday, she shared on Instagram a behind-the-scenes look at her preparations ahead of the performance.
The singer posted a video of herself moments before the âAmerican Idolâ rehearsal. Her preparation clearly paid off when she received a standing ovation from the showâs judges, Luke Bryant, Carrie Underwood, and Lionel Richie.

Fans were quick to sound off on Simpsonâs return to the stage. While many were thrilled to see the singer back in the spotlight, others were more critical of her overall performance.
One Instagram user commented, âBravo! So happy she is back with incredible new music!â
Another impressed fan wrote, âWow, I never knew she sounded so good live. Sheâs still got it and back on stage better than ever.â
A fan praised Simpson saying, âKudos to her for getting on that stage and having fun. People will always have something negative to say. She looks great.â
Interestingly, not everyoneâs impressed with Simpsonâs delivery of the songs. One commenter noted, âShe has a good voice, I just wish she would relax when she sings. It always seems like sheâs trying too hard.â
Another chimed in, âI love JS but sheâs always forced her voice so much instead of just finding her vocal comfort zone. Sheâs never been strong at belting out ballads IMO.â
One user criticized, âShe really just never learned how to use her voice. Perfect example of natural talent with terrible technique.â
Meanwhile, Josh King expressed his excitement about sharing the stage with Simpson, commenting, âIt was an absolute honor to perform with Jessica!â

Aside from music, Simpson is also busy with her acting comeback. The âTake My Breath Awayâ singer is set to make a surprise appearance in the upcoming Hulu legal drama âAllâs Fair.â
In the trailer, Simpson is seen dramatically tossing a drink into someoneâs face. Despite the brief glimpse, it was more than enough to send fans into a frenzy.
âAllâs Fairâ stars Kim Kardashian, Naomi Watts, Glenn Close, Sarah Paulson, Niecy Nash-Betts, and Teyana Taylor.
Simpson is no stranger to acting. The singer is best known for her roles in the movies âThe Dukes of Hazzard,â âEmployee of the Month,â and âBlonde Ambition.â She also had a recurring role in âThat â70s Showâ Season 5.
