Moments after the GOP-controlled House barely passed a budget bill that will now be negotiated with the similarly GOP-controlled Senate, MSNBC contributor Sam Stein claimed the Republican House members parted ways with Donald Trump twice with one vote.
Speaking with the hosts of MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Stein stated Trump's admonition to Republicans to not "f---" with Medicaid was ignored.
"Two things here," the managing editor of The Bulwark began. "One is it is ample opportunity for Democrats to make politics out of this; Medicaid is extremely popular and this will slash millions from the roles of Medicaid and it's going to deeply complicate things for Republican states as well as Democratic states."

"And then secondly is, this is, you could, in theory say, well, this you know, this whole new Trump-era populism, this is 'a workers party' now, et cetera. et cetera –– this is an abandonment of that, frankly, on the merits, right?" he added. "I mean, the tax cuts are weighted to the rich. Steve Bannon had proposed, you know, taxing high-income earners potentially and Trump flirted with it, but he disposed of it."
"They weren't supposed to touch Medicaid," he added before laughing and stating, "Trump said don't eff with it. They effed with it."
"So like all those promises, all the realignment of the coalition, this goes against that realignment," he pointed out. "Now, maybe that's not enough to move things back, but certainly it gives Democrats fodder."
