Golfers Tyrrell Hatton and Shane Lowry React to PGA Outbursts
Tyrrell Hatton lashed out after a poor shot at the PGA Championship, calling it 'not his finest moment,' as Shane Lowry showed frustration, too
Pro golfers Tyrrell Hatton and Shane Lowry have broken their silence after they each lashed out during the PGA Championship amid their respective subpar swings.
Hatton was heard uttering the words âs***â and âc***â at his club on Thursday, May 15, when the ball landed in the creek instead of on the green or in the hole.
âIt wasnât my finest moment on the course, but I mean, yeah, running hot in the moment,â Hatton, 33, told reporters afterward, per the BBC. âIâm pretty good at sometimes saying the wrong thing. So yeah, Iâll leave it at that.â
Long before his outburst at Quail Hollow, the British golf star had been known for his fiery temper when tournaments didnât go as planned.

Rickie Fowler had no time for a heckler while competing at the PGA National on Saturday, March 1. The golfer, who is hoping to nab his first PGA Tour win since 2023, missed a putt on the 16th hole, apparently drawing the ire of one spectator in the crowd. The Irish Times reported that while [âŚ]
âI think youâd actually be shocked,â Hatton quipped to Golf Digest in June 2024 of the fines heâs accrued for his tantrums on the fairway. âYouâre thinking itâs ridiculous amounts. Now, donât get me wrong, itâs a lot of money, but it is nowhere near [$100,000]. ⌠I reckon I havenât reached double digits. Itâs still quite a bit of money.â
Thursday also proved to be a difficult day for Lowry, 38, who was seen flashing his middle finger at the hole on Thursday, May 15, after missing a shot.
âYou hit a lovely tee shot, youâre not expecting that,â the Irish golfer told reporters later that day. âI was obviously very annoyed with that because I felt like I had quite a bit of momentum going in the round, and standing there with 40 or 50 yards to the pin off the fairway itâs an easy pitch shot for me â and I walk away making bogey.â

Scottie Scheffler lost his composure on Friday, August 23, during the PGA Tourâs 2024 BMW Championship, when a less-than-perfect shot resulted in him dropping an F-bomb on live TV. The golf pro, 28, who is currently ranked No. 1 in the world, ran into a snag at the 10th hole of Denverâs Castle Pines Golf [âŚ]
Lowry also alleged that an on-course reporter had gotten âa bit too involvedâ in the tournament.
âThatâs what annoyed me a lot,â Lowry claimed, without naming the journalist in question. âHe came straight over and said, âThatâs not your pitch mark.â Thatâs not for you to talk about, itâs for me to call a rules official and decide what happens.â
He added, âI wasnât arguing that it was my pitch mark, I was trying to be 100% sure because imagine if I come in [after the round] and all of a sudden somebody told me that was my pitch mark. They told Brooks [Koepka] his ball was OK yesterday and it was on the driving range, so you need to be careful about what youâre doing because thereâs so much at stake.â
