On May 5, Hailey Bieber walked the carpet at the Met Gala in a double-breasted suit jacket. She attended solo, with husband Justin Bieber nowhere in sight. He showed support for his wife on his Instagram account, which recently brought him controversy. One day before the Met Gala, Justin posted a picture with what appeared to be a bong, sparking concern amongst fans.
Hailey attended the Met Gala, themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” on her own this year. She wore a black, double-breasted Saint Laurent blazer mini dress with sheer tights and black heels. She wore silver jewelry to enhance the look.
Before the gala, Hailey walked out of her hotel holding a dirty martini with olives. “One thing about me is I’m gonna wear a blazer and drink a martini,” she wrote on her Instagram story.
Though her husband did not attend the event, he shared multiple pictures of Hailey at the event on his own Instagram account.
One day before the event, Justin’s Instagram account caused some controversy amongst his fans. He posted a photo on Instagram that appears to show him smoking a bong. Some fans expressed concern in the comments.
“Look at all the drugs on that table,” wrote one person. “Praying hard for you Bieber!!”
“Go home to your wife and child grow up!” wrote another.
Others believed he was setting a bad example for his fans.
“Always thought [Justin Bieber] was better than that. At least keep it out of the public view. You’re not setting a good example for your young fans. Your standards appear low,” wrote another person.
Justin has reportedly felt increasingly frustrated with the constant backlash. A source said Justin does not deny the fact that he smokes weed and feels frustrated that people criticize him for it.
“Justin is having fun, vibing out and yes, he smokes weed like everyone else,” a source told People. “But everything he does is being weaponized against him.”
Hailey reportedly feels sad that her husband is facing backlash.
“Hailey is not on the verge of wanting a divorce or leaving him. It’s just completely untrue,” a source said. “If anything she’s sad about how hard everyone is being on him now that he finally is coming back out of his shell.”
The Biebers have only attended the Met Gala together once in 2021. He wore a black suit and she wore a black strapless gown. Their arrival on the red carpet was relatively dramatic, as Selena Gomez fans heckled them.
“I could hear everyone screaming and again I think there’s a certain part of you that has a numbness [to it]. I was really surprised,” she said on the Call Her Daddy podcast. “I didn’t know if that’s what was really going on until I saw the video after.”
Hailey believed it was “a very disrespectful thing to do towards anybody.”
