Iconic UK boyband reveal they 'said no' to competing at Eurovision

A member of an iconic UK boyband has revealed they 'said no' to representing the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Since Katrina and The Waves last won the Eurovision in 1997, the nation have been desperate to achieve their sixth triumph.

It isnât a rarity for the UK to send an already famous act to the annual event, with the 21st century featuring several attempts at trying to use popularity or nostalgia to no avail.

Sugbabes singer Jade Ewan, boyband Blue, Total Eclipse of the Heart hitmaker Bonnie Tyler and Years and Yearsâ Olly Alexander all failed to cement their place in Eurovision folklore.
However, one act who UK Eurovision fanatics have campaigned for years to represent the nation is noughties group Busted.
Made up of Matt Willis, James Bourne and Charlie Simpson, Busted scored four UK number-one singles, won two Brit Awards and sold over 5 million records worldwide in the early 2000s.
Article continues belowReuniting in 2015 after a decade apart, Busted have shown no signs that theyâll try their luck at winning the beloved competition.
Appearing on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2, Matt revealed they were asked to take on the Eurovision.

On top of this, Emma Willisâ husband let slip that Bustedâs former rivals McFly, who they have embarked on several tours with in recent years, were also asked.
âAs per usual, Busted were asked first and we said no, so they went to McFly, but they asked us a couple of years ago.
âThey said: âWould you like to write a song and perform it on Eurovisionâ,â he told Scott.

Matt was joined in the studio by McFlyâs Tom Fletcher, who admitted he âwould have loved to have done itâ and believes âit would be funâ.
This year's Eurovision, which is being held inSwitzerland, sees the UK represented by girl group Remember Monday, made up of Lauren Byrne, Holly-Anne Hull and Charlotte Steele.
Since they are part of the âbig fiveâ with France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, the UK already has its place booked in the Eurovision final on May 17.

While Graham Norton will be on commentating duties for the final, the semi-finals will be covered by Scott and Rylan Clarke.
