Eight years on from Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazarâs Revenge and fans continue to skull and crossbones their fingers for a Johnny Depp Jack Sparrow return.
And now franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer has given the latest update while promoting his latest film F1: The Movie.

In a new interview, the 81-year-old said of Pirates of the Caribbean 6 said: âWeâre working on a screenplay. Hopefully weâll get it right â and then weâll make it. We really want to make it, thatâs for sure.â
Asked by Screen Rant if it was a continuation or something new, Burckheimer replied: âItâll be a new take on it... not all new actors. Weâll have some back⌠Iâm not going to tell you which ones â youâll have to guess.â While this doesnât confirm that Depp will return as Sparrow in this movie, itâs certainly hope for fans. And given Orlando Bloomâs latest comments about âbringing the band back togetherâ, thereâs a desire among the cast, too.
Although, to be honest, we wouldnât be surprised if Depp was only a cameo in Pirates 6 before a full return in a seventh film after setting up new characters. The real question is can Pirates of the Caribbean command the box office without its star? For some fans itâs âNo Johnny, no Piratesâ and theyâll happily boycott a sequel without him.
