The Trump team is calling out transgender U.S. House Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE) after the member of Congress falsely asserted that the recently passed ābig, beautifulā bill would āimpose a tax on working people.ā
Outside the Capitol on Thursday, McBride railed against House Republicans after narrow passage of President Donald Trumpās signature domestic legislation, which includes the largest tax cut in American history. Thatās false, McBride claimed over boos from liberal spectators.
āThis is a budget, this is a budget that imposes a tax on working people, a tax on patients, creating new out-of-pocket expenses, breaking the foundational promise of this presidentās campaign to lower costs for working people,ā stated McBride.
The rapid response account for Trumpās campaign labeled McBrideās statement āa total lie.ā
āThe One Big Beautiful Bill CUTS taxes for working people and ELIMINATES taxes on tips and overtime,ā the Rapid Response 47 account wrote on X. āIn fact, Americans earning between $30k-$80k would see a 15% reduction in taxes.ā

McBrideās claims were echoed by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), who shortly after the vote began referring to Trumpās ābig, beautifulā bill as the āGOP Tax Scam.ā

The transgender lawmaker first garnered controversy after winning a first term in 2024, prompting House Republicans to pass rules for members restricting them to use Capitol restrooms in accordance with their biological sex. Democrats were furious about the proposal by Republican Rep. Nancy Mace (R-NC) but did little apart from issuing angry objections.
āThis is a blatant attempt from far right-wing extremists to distract from the fact that they have no real solutions to what Americans are facing,ā McBride told Axios after the new restroom rule was adopted.
