Pedro Pascal Hilariously Called Out Dakota Johnson For 'Not Remembering' Who He Was At The Met Gala, And I Kind Of Love Her Defense

We’ve all had one of those awkward interactions when you get chatting with someone that you know you’ve met before, but it soon becomes clear that they have no clue who you are. And if it makes you feel any better, it turns out that even famous people aren’t immune to those kinds of moments.

Ahead of their upcoming rom-com, The Materialists, in which they play love interests, Pedro Pascal interviewed Dakota Johnson for a new Elle UK cover interview. One of the questions was about how the pair first met — and well, it sounds like a bit of a sensitive subject. “According to whose truth? Do you want your story or my story?” Dakota said, setting the scene for some conflict.

After joking that they met on Raya (lol), Pedro said that he and Dakota first bonded at the Golden Globes in 2014, along with Sarah Paulson. “It wasn’t during the ceremony,” he explained, giving a detailed account of the meeting. “It was the after bit, when they usher you out and you go directly into some kind of HBO party. You knew Sarah and so met me, and you were on your own. They probably wouldn’t give you a plus one. So, we banded together, and we looked after you.”

And while it sounds like the two connected on that night, Dakota confessed she had absolutely no recollection of it ever happening, which made for quite the awkward interaction when the two crossed paths again at the Met Gala “about ten years later.” (From my research, it was probably only about five years later in 2019).

Telling the story from his perspective, Pedro said: “Well, I loved you the first time and then I didn’t think you were that nice to me at the Met Gala. You weren’t mean, but I was building the interaction of having already met you. And I had a moment of feeling a little stupid because it was like, ‘Oh, she doesn’t remember me.’”

Why is this actually breaking my heart? The Met sounds nerve-racking enough, let alone with a run-in like that. Anyway, Dakota attempted to defend herself by comparing the chaos of the Met Gala to The Twilight Zone. “I don’t know what the fuck is going on. I don’t feel I connect with any human beings in a real way; it’s like going into some sort of vortex,” she said, joking that she and Pedro have rehashed this debate countless times. “This is maybe the 37th time we’ve had this conversation. The 37th time Pedro makes me feel like an absolute piece of shit for not remembering him.”
