Reba McEntire Closes in on Showbiz Record by Hosting Her 18th ACM Awards

The Oscars, the Grammys, the Golden Globes, the Emmys, the Tonys, the CMA Awards, and the ACM Awards are all of the most popular awards shows in the United States, and arguably, the world. That being so, every year, each show books one of the biggest talents in their industry to host. Some select a new host every year, whereas others like to go with a reliable selection. Regarding the latter, one show that seemingly likes the reliable pick is the ACM Awards, as Reba McEntire has become the unofficial face of the show after hosting it a total of 17 times.
Tonight, Reba McEntire will make that number 18 after she finishes hosting the 60th annual Academy of Country Music Awards. The first time McEntire hosted the show was in 1986 alongside her country music counterparts, Mac Davis and John Schneider. Subsequently, McEntire went on to host the show 16 times between 1988 and 2024. Her most frequent co-hosts were Blake Shelton and Tim McGraw. Matter of fact, she hosted the show with Shelton a whopping nine times.
Hosting the ACM Awards 18 times is an incredible feat in and of itself. However, McEntire is also on track to break a major showbiz record. After tonight, McEntire will be the second most frequent host in the history of all major entertainment awards shows.
When one thinks of the Grammys, they think of Andy Williams, and when one thinks of the Golden Globes, they think of Ricky Gervais. Now, when one thinks of the Oscars, they likely think of Bob Hope. This is because Hope famously hosted the awards show 19 times between 1940 and 1978. Consequently, Bob Hope holds the record for the most frequent host in awards show history. However, McEntire is on track to break that record.
Following tonight, McEntire will need to host the ACM Awards just two more times in order to beat Hope’s record, and given that she has hosted the show 17 times, she will likely host it at least two more times following tonight.
