Shaboozey Appears To Break Silence on Viral “Side-Eye” Moment, Says the True History of Country Music Cannot Be Erased
Shaboozey takes to X and gives alleged response to Megan Moroney's AMA Awards comments about the creators of country music.
Last night, May 26, 2025, the American Music Awards transpired at Fontainebleau in Las Vegas, Nevada. The big winners of the night were Billie Eilish, Gracie Abrams, Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars, as well as Post Malone and Beyoncé. Other than the winners accepting their victories, another instance that captured the attention of viewers is when Shaboozey and Megan Moroney took the stage to present the Favorite Country Duo or Group award.
In addition to announcing the nominees, Moroney and Shaboozey provided some context about country music and the awards show by remembering some of the former country musicians to have won an AMA award. During the presentation, Shaboozey stated that Charley Pride previously won the AMA award for Favorite Male Country Artist. Replying to that statement, Moroney stated, “That same year, Favorite Female Artist went to Lynn Anderson, and this award [Favorite Country Duo or Group] went to the Carter family, who basically invented country music.”
Following her response, Shaboozey let out a quizzical face that has since become the more notable moment of the night. That being so, it seems Shaboozey and the general public were puzzled by Moroney’s statement. Mainly because it seemingly did not pay homage to the many other figures and bands who helped create the genre.
On the other hand, folks have also speculated that Shaboozey’s perplexed look was the result of him believing that Moroney was referring to Beyoncé’s country album, Cowboy Carter. Regardless, Shaboozey has since spoken on the matter per his recent X post.
On May 27, the morning after the show, Shaboozey took to X to seemingly share his thoughts on the matter. He simply wrote in his post, “When you uncover the true history of country music, you find a story so powerful that it cannot be erased…” Again, it is not certain what exactly Shaboozey is alluding to in this post. Though given the timing of the comment, fans have connected it with Moroney’s on-stage statement.
Shaboozey then followed things up with another tweet, which you can see below:
Regardless, everyone is seemingly thinking, “Who wrote the teleprompter lines for Megan Moroney?”
