Spurs player ratings vs Man Utd - Five players get 10 in Europa League final
Here are our Tottenham Hotspur player ratings after Ange Postecoglou's men won the Europa League with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United
Tottenham beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final on Wednesday night in Bilbao and here are our Spurs player ratings as they sealed the trophy.
Ange Postecoglou made the big decision to name his captain Son Heung-min on the bench and went for the same team that won in the semi-final second leg at Bodo/Glimt but without the injured Dejan Kulusevski, with Pape Matar Sarr coming into the side. Richarlison got the job on the left up top in Son's place alongside Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson.
A cagey first half lacking in quality from both sides was separated by a Luke Shaw own goal just before the break. Sarr curled in a dangerous cross and Johnson touched it on to Shaw and the ball bounced into the net with Andre Onana unable to keep it out.
Spurs battled away and kept United at bay for the second half and ended their 17-year wait for a trophy and 41-year wait for a European triumph.
Here are our Tottenham player ratings from the final:
Guglielmo Vicario
Had an early flap at a cross and a couple of times in the second half, one needing Van de Ven to bail him out with an acrobatic clearance before the ball looped into the goal. Pushed away Garanacho's low shot not too long after and made up for everything earlier with a huge late save in added time from Shaw. 8
Pedro Porro
Defended superbly at the back with remarkable energy throughout the contest. What a season he's had, always there for the team and now on the biggest stage. 10
Cristian Romero
A battling leader at the back. He took the knocks and constantly frustrated United. Was given the man of the match award. 10
Micky van de Ven
Defended well throughout and then came up with a brilliant acrobatic goal line clearance to stop Hojland's header looping into the net. What a night for the young defender. 10
Destiny Udogie
Struggled with Diallo's pace in the first half but grew into the game enormously and became an attacking force in the second period. Made a great challenge in the Spurs box before racing up the pitch with Solanke who couldn't control his pass on the run in a two vs one situation. Came off late after taking a couple of knocks on barnstorming runs. 10
Rodrigo Bentancur
Made a good run in the build-up to the goal before half-time and worked so hard in the middle of the pitch throughout. 9
Yves Bissouma
Postecoglou told him he would need him at the end of the season and he certainly did. The midfielder was superb. 10
Pape Matar Sarr
Had an early shot blocked in the United box. Did really well to break up United's play and from one interception he went on and curled in a cross that eventually hit Shaw and bounced into the net before the break. Fully justified his selection with a constantly running display and never gave United a moment to rest. 9
Brennan Johnson
Had one early good run and then forced the own goal off Shaw with good movement. Worked hard in the second half, particularly defensively. 7
Dominic Solanke
Worked hard in his usual pressing role and had a great chance in the second half when he broke with Udogie but he just couldn't control the Italian's pass. 7
Richarlison
Started brightly and had an early shot deflected wide. A couple of loose touches, but he worked hard defensively and was involved in the first half goal. Picked up a yellow card in the second half and came off not too long after. 7
Subs
Son Heung-min
Came on and worked hard down the left. Could have had an assist with a free-kick Danso was inches away from. 7
Kevin Danso
Came on and almost got on the end of a Son free-kick before making a great header at the other end of the pitch in added time. 8
Archie Gray
Came on the final minutes and sprinted at everything to stop United getting through. N/A
Djed Spence
Replaced Udogie late on and helped keep United at bay. N/A
