United on Europa League knife edge amid £65m transfer impact and Cunha call
Ruben Amorim could add some new faces to his Manchester United squad in the summer transfer window.
Manchester United will be looking to add new talent to their squad in the summer transfer window, but the level of player that comes through the door could depend on the outcome of the Europa League final.
It's been a horrendous domestic season for United, with Ruben Amorim's side set to end the campaign with the worst points tally in the club's Premier League history. United sit 16th in the table with one game to go, but they've been handed a lifeline after a strong run in the Europa League.
A 7-1 aggregate win over Athletic Bilbao means United will take on Tottenham in the Europa League final later this week, and if Amorim's side win the competition, they will be guaranteed Champions League football next season. That will have a huge impact on United's summer transfer window, with playing in Europe's biggest competition a big appeal for players all over the globe.
But, if United were to lose the Europa League final and have no European football, then the calibre of players available changes. So, to see how United's summer might go, we simulated the upcoming transfer window for if United win the final and if they lose to see what players Amorim's side could bring to Old Trafford. To set up this simulation, we used the Football Manager 2024 editor to simulate the 2025 summer transfer window. This is what happened.
Antonio Nusa (RB Leipzig) - £44million
Liam Delap (Ipswich Town) - £30million
Rome Jayden Owusu-Oduro (AZ) - £11.25million
Anan Khalaili (Union SG) - £3.4million
Despite not winning the Europa League, United still spent nearly £89.25million in the summer transfer window. Norwegian youngster Antonio Nusa signed for £44million, with United paying over the odds for the RB Leipzig attacker to pry him away from the German club he only joined last summer.

A new striker arrived, with Liam Delap joining from Ipswich Town for £30million after his side's relegation from the Premier League. Young AZ goalkeeper Rome Jayden Owusu-Oduro joined from AZ to offer more competition, while 20-year-old Anan Khalaili joined for £3.4million, though he was instantly sent on loan to Blackburn Rovers for the upcoming campaign.
Matheus Cunha (Wolves) - £54million
Liam Delap (Ipswich Town) - £30million
Hugo Larsson (Eintracht Frankfurt) - £39million
Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa) - £31m (rising to £36m)
Angel Gomes (Lille) - Free transfer
With Champions League football, United were able to attract some big names in the summer transfer window as they splashed £154million, the biggest being Wolves' Matheus Cunha for £54million. Amorim's side attempted to sign the Brazilian in the other simulation, but he wanted Champions League football so moved to Arsenal instead.
Delap signed for £30million with United adding two Premier League-proven attackers to their squad. Highly-rated Swedish midfielder Hugo Larsson signed from Eintracht Frankfurt for £39million, while Amorim boosted his midfield options once more with the arrival of ex-United star Angel Gomes, with the Englishman signing for free after his contract with Lille ran out.
Lastly, one more defensive addition was made, with Amorim continuing to focus on Premier League players as the club signed Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa for £31million, potentially rising to £36million with add-ons.
