Who is Northeast Ohio’s fastest football player? NEO Rising Legends Showcase settled it
See who was crowned fastest man in Northeast Ohio.
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — Four of Northeast Ohio’s fastest football players lined up for the championship heat of the fastest-man contest at John Carroll University during the NEO Rising Legends Showcase.
Villa Angela-St. Joseph’s Savion Lewis followed up his first run with another victory to earn the distinction of fastest football player in the area Saturday afternoon at Don Shula Stadium.
Lewis said his personal best is 4.45 seconds in the 40-yard dash. He didn’t know what he ran Saturday, but all that mattered is he beat the competition.
“I’ve been working on my speed,” said Lewis, who will be a senior this fall. “I’ve been going to speed trainer.”

Lewis added more receiving duties last year, scoring six touchdowns with 456 yards on 15 receptions. He had 26 tackles on defense, plus 17 pass breakups and an interception.
Most important of all, he did not give up a touchdown.
“Being able to start on defense really helped me to learn the receiver position,” Lewis said. “I’ve just been training and working.”
He showcased his ability on both sides of the ball Saturday during one-on-one drills, in addition to the sprints. Even after his “blue” team was eliminated from 7-on-7 competition, the victorious “black” team got the chance to pick an addition for the championship round.
They chose Lewis, who holds scholarship offers from Akron, Youngstown State, Georgetown, Yale and Dartmouth.

“It boosts my confidence to keep working,” Lewis said, “keep going.”
