The Eurovision Song Contest is underway and by the end of this evening will have a new winner of the biggest music event in the world.
The 2025 edition of the annual competition is taking place on Saturday night (May 17) with the United Kingdom hoping to fare well with entry, Remember Monday, who are the first female group to represent the country at Eurovision since 1999.

Those watching the action unfold in the UK on BBC One or BBC iPlayer will once again be hearing commentary from the 'king of Eurovision' himself Graham Norton, while Hazel Brugger, Michelle Hunziker and Sandra Studer host the contest live in Basel, Switzerland.

And it was Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa who was due to be the UK's spokesperson this year. However, he was replaced at the eleventh hour as he had to pull out due to âunforeseen circumstancesâ, the BBC said.
The 32-year-old actor, who grew up in Scotland and rose to fame in Sex Education, was due to reveal the points given by the UK national jury to other contestants during the competitionâs grand finale.

He is instead being replaced by singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor, who is also a BBC Radio 2 DJ. She said: "I love Eurovision and itâs a privilege to be part of 2025âs Grand Final.
"What an honour it is to announce the UKâs jury score on such a special show which always puts music front and centre. I am very much looking forward to delivering the iconic douze points from the United Kingdom.â
A BBC post on X said on Thursday (May 15): "Due to unforeseen circumstances, unfortunately Ncuti Gatwa is no longer able to participate as spokesperson during the Grand Final this weekend.â

Before the final on Saturday, a Eurovision themed episode of Doctor Who â The Interstellar Song Contest â aired.
The sixth episode in the current season of sci-fi hit Doctor Who will see The Doctor (Gatwa) and companion Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu) travelling to the 803rd Interstellar Song Contest.
In the episode, the Interstellar Song Contest features planets from across the universe competing for the top prize and is co-hosted by TV and radio presenter Rylan Clark, while Irish TV host and the âKing of Eurovisionâ, Graham Norton appears.
