Coronation Street's Colson Smith leaves fans in tears with emotional message
Colson Smith has played the role of Craig Tinker in Coronation Street for almost 14 years but confirmed at the start of 2022 that his time in Weatherfield was coming to an end
Coronation Street's Colson Smith has left fans in tears with his heartfelt farewell as the soap commenced a pivotal week of episodes marking his departure.
The actor, who has portrayed Craig Tinker on the ITV series for nearly 14 years, announced earlier this year that he would be hanging up his character's police uniform.
â
In January, alongside an image of himself in character as Craig the cop, Colson confirmed on social media: "Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinker's time on the Cobbles is to come to end in 2025."
â
He expressed his deep affection for his time on the show, saying: "I've loved every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the greatest street in the world. I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street. I've learned pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. I'm excited to play out the exit story for Our Craigy."
Colson also hinted at his future aspirations: "For Me, this is just the end of the beginning. I genuinely can't wait to see what chapter 2 has in store for me. LONG LIVE THE COBBLES!", reports the Manchester Evening News.

In Monday's episode on May 19, viewers were gripped as Craig fell prey to a brutal assault, just as he began his CID placement with Kit and looked forward to an online date later that day.
Feeling overlooked by Kit throughout the day, a disheartened Craig confided in DS Lisa Swain, admitting his doubts about Kit's opinion of his work.
Lisa encouraged him to don his uniform again and prove Kit wrong. So, when Fizz Dobbs dialled 999, Craig was conveniently located to respond - or later inconveniently - as he set off to investigate the disturbance, seizing the opportunity to impress Kit.

Upon arriving at Mick and Loui Michaelis' residence, Lou dismissed any notion of trouble. However, screams heard after his departure indicated that Lou had been assaulted by her husband, resulting in a head wound, before he made his escape.
Spotted by Craig, Mick hastily drove off in his van, contemplating revenge against Kit upon learning that Brody might not be his biological son.
Craig resumed his duties and went on patrol. Later, he attempted to call Lisa, but she didn't pick up as she was busy taking a new statement from Sean Tully regarding his own violent encounter with Mick.
â
Undeterred, he left her a voicemail expressing his excitement about potentially joining CID one day. However, his focus was soon diverted and he was seen stopping Mick in his van, intending to administer a breathalyser test due to suspicions of drink driving.
Mick, however, became convinced that Craig was in cahoots with corrupt Kit and knocked the breathalyser out of the officer's hand. Craig promptly sprang into action, intent on arresting Mick.
â
As Mick approached his van and retrieved a baseball bat, Craig attempted to calm the situation, but Mick savagely attacked him with it. After commanding him to stand and receiving no response, Mick snatched Craig's bodycam and absconded, leaving Craig motionless and bleeding on the ground.
During the broadcast of Corrie's first episode of the week, Colson took to X, previously known as Twitter, posting a message that swiftly tugged at viewers' heartstrings following the harrowing scenes they had just witnessed.
â
"One final shift Craigy T," the 26-year-old actor wrote, accompanied by an orange heart emoji. Sharon Marshall from This Morning, dubbed the 'soap queen', was quick to react, simply stating: "Sob."
Fans were quick to express their sentiments, with one person writing: "You are going to be so unbelievable missed! ! ! one of the sweetest characters to ever grace the cobbles fr."
Another shared her sadness at Colson's departure, praising his performance: "I'm sad you've left you was brilliant Colson."

Another fan was also moved to tears: "Sobbing so bad. Little tinks." One viewer summed up the collective grief: "If I wasn't already broken from watching the episode, I definitely am now."
