While this yearâs Met Gala saw plenty of standout looks on the carpet, Billie Eilish was not among them, and understandably so, as she was on tour in Europe.
Despite this fact, social media followers reacted to fake images of the singer-songwriter at the 2025 gala, not realizing that the outfit they were so passionately denouncing was AI-generated. The overwhelming amount of criticism over Eilishâs fake look reached a point that the artist herself addressed the comments on Instagram Stories.
âSeeing people talk about what I wore to this yearâs Met Gala âbeing trash.â I wasnât there!â said Eilish in the video posted on Wednesday. âThatâs AI. I had a show in Europe that night. Let me be! I wasnât even there!â
Eilish had performed in Amsterdamâs Ziggo Dome on May 4 and 5, with an additional concert scheduled on May 7 â which would have made it extraordinarily difficult for her to jet to New York City for the Met Gala, then return the Netherlands in time for her next show.
This isnât the first time fans were duped by AI images of the Met Gala. AI photos of Katy Perry circulated online for the second year in a row, with the 143 artist addressing the mixup this time around. âCouldnât make it to the MET, Iâm on The Lifetimes Tour (see you in Houston tomorrow IR),â Katy wrote on social media alongside the AI-generated photos, joking: âP.s. this year I was actually with my mom so sheâs safe from the bots but Iâm praying for the rest of yâall.â
