Carlos Alcaraz sends classy message to Jannik Sinner after winning blockbuster French Open final
The Spaniard came from two sets down to reign supreme at Roland Garros on Sunday
Carlos Alcaraz sent a classy message to Jannik Sinner after beating the world No 1 in the final of the French Open on Sunday.
The 22-year-old, who had gone into the contest as the defending champion, won a marathon match that lasted five-and-a-half hours with a 4-6 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (10-2) victory.
Alcaraz had appeared down and out when he fell two sets down.
However, he produced some of the best tennis of his career to rock Sinner - who squandered three championship points in the fourth set.

Alcaraz has now reacted to his magnificent win, with the Spaniard hailing Sinner and everything he achieved throughout the tournament.
"I always want to start with Jannik. It is amazing the level you have," he said.
"Congratulations for an amazing two weeks. I know the hard work you put in every day.
"I know how hard you chase this tournament and every tournament.

"You are going to be champion many times- it is a privilege to share the court with you in every tournament and make history with you.
"I am really happy to make history with you in this tournaments, in other tournaments. You are a huge inspiration for young kids, for me too.
"I just want to say thank you for everything my team, my family. I have the privilege to be able to live great things with you.
"This tournament to me is really special. I cannot wait to come here year after year."

The match, without a doubt, will be remembered as the best French Open final of all time.
Pundits in attendance were blown away by the performances of both men. Greg Rusedski, speaking on the BBC, said: "We said it was going to be a classic - and it really was.
"It is the greatest Grand Slam final I've ever seen.
"The emotion from Carlos Alcaraz is just unbelievable. He is down there hugging his mum, his dad and his brother.

"Let's spare a thought for Jannik Sinner though. This must be immensely painful, having had those three championship points. He is handling the situation very well but this must be a bitter disappointment for him.
Naomi Brady added: "It feels like this is absolutely going to be a historic moment of our sport.
"There are so many professional athletes in the stands today that are just in awe of these two guys. The physicality and the mentality just encompasses everything tennis is about.
"I don't think there has ever been a better showcase for our sport."

"Carlos certainly didn't invent tennis but he is perfecting it.
"When you frame it in the rivalry he has with Jannik now- it just bodes so well for the future.
