Chelsea are hoping to land a sum of up to £100million in prize money at the upcoming Club World Cup.

The revamped Club World Cup kicks off on June 15 and concludes on July 13, with an eye-watering £775m prize pot set to be shared between all 32 teams.

The tournament was previously contested by seven teams each year but will now take place every four years. Both Chelsea and Manchester City have secured their places in the competition due to their Champions League triumphs in 2021 and 2023, respectively.

Other European sides have qualified through a UEFA ranking system based on their performances over the past four seasons.

A whopping £407m will be split among all participating clubs, with an additional £368m awarded based on performance. That means Chelsea could rake in up to £97m if they go all the way and lift their second trophy of the year.

Such a sum would significantly boost their finances and potentially their summer transfers, as Enzo Maresca’s side look to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Chelsea have already been active in the transfer market despite their recent PSR issues, which they hope the Club World Cup will help alleviate.

Estevao Willian, Liam Delap, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr and Kendry Paez have already been brought in excess of £100m in order to bolster the side next season. The first four signings mentioned have all been included in Chelsea’s 28-man Club World Cup squad.

However, Ecuadorian teenager Paez has not been selected ahead of an expected move to Strasbourg on a season-long loan deal, as the Blues look to hand him some valuable first team experience.

Chelsea are not done yet, either, with reports linking them with efforts to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens, Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike and Athletic Club's Nico Williams.

The Blues reportedly made a formal bid of over £42m to sign Gittens last week which was rejected, though the former Manchester City academy starlet is reportedly keen to join the Londoners and is claimed to have agreed personal terms until 2032.

Negotiations are expected to extend beyond the Club World Cup, meaning a successful tournament could boost Chelsea’s transfer budget and therefore their chances of signing the 20-year-old.

Meanwhile, Frankfurt are reportedly seeking around £85m for Frenchman Ekitike. It is understood that Chelsea have not yet submitted a bid, having only made an enquiry about a deal a fortnight ago.
