In a new statement, Sky head coach Tyler Marsh reflected on how he feels about Angel Reese missing practice to attend the Met Gala, a star-studded fashion event, with a Chicago sports publication.

Chicago Sky Head Coach Is Sharing His Feelings About Angel Reese Attending The Met Gala Instead Of Preseason Practice

In a post shared to X, formerly Twitter, a Chicago sports reporter updated their followers about the Sky's preseason happenings. They also posted about how Reese, one of the team's biggest names, wasn't in attendance during their May 5th practice because she's visiting New York City for this year's Met Gala.

Head coach Tyler Marsh, who previously worked for the Las Vegas Aces, opened up about Reese's off-court obligations and said he and his staff were more than happy to support her.

"She puts in a ton of work during the season and in the offseason, extra work," Marsh said. "She communicated to her teammates that she would be [at the Met Gala], and as an organization, we're in support of everyone on and off the court. It's a great experience, a great opportunity for her, and we're in support of it."

Marsh continued, "Any time that we can showcase and highlight the personalities of the players of our league, no matter what team they're from, I think it's a good thing for the league. So we want to continue to increase the popularity on and off the court."

This Year's Met Gala Isn't Angel Reese's First Rodeo

Reese's attendance at the 2025 Met Gala won't be the first time the walking double-double has been under the bright lights.

In 2024, Reese made headlines for the same reason — missing one of the Sky's preseason practices for the Met before returning to the Windy City the next day to help her teammates defeat the New York Liberty.

She walked the red carpet in a custom blue dress designed by the British label, 16Arlington.

Reese Stirred Up Drama Last Year

Although Reese made headlines by being one of the only WNBA players to walk the Met Gala red carpet, not everyone was excited about her extracurricular activities.

The Bayou Barbie, who won a national championship with Kim Mulkey at LSU in 2023, received criticism from watchers who felt that she was placing basketball and her teammates behind her additional opportunities.

However, Reese clapped back, urging everyone to "maximize" their "24 hours."

After her dominating performance over the Liberty, where she scored 13 points and snagged five rebounds, Reese posted another comment.

“So now y'all can delete them drafts & tweets saying I shouldn’t have gone to the met gala & I can’t do both. I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME,” she wrote.

Angel Reese Wants To Focus On Fashion And Sports

After gracing the cover of Vogue at the beginning of 2025, Reese discussed how her plan has always been to be a powerhouse basketball player and a fashion icon.

"It’s always been both—basketball and fashion," she said, explaining that she's had an affinity for clothing since she was a young girl.

"I liked to carry a purse. Hair done. I wanted to look put together. I still do. I used to watch 'America’s Next Top Model' with Tyra [Banks] and practice my walk in the living room."

Reese Won Unrivaled's First Ever Championship

During the WNBA's off-season, some of the league's top talent, including Reese, joined a new 3x3 basketball league, Unrivaled, backed by sports legends like Steph Curry. The company is aiming to revitalize women's sports, offering its players the highest average salary in women's team sports history.

Reese played alongside Lexie Hull, Chelsea Gray, and other dynamic ballers for the Rose BC.

After a rough start to the season, losing some nail-biting contests, Team Rose pulled it together and won the organization's first-ever championship title.

Reese was also named the league's first-ever Defensive Player of the Year after receiving the "most combined weighted votes from Unrivaled players and coaches, as well as a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters."
