Couple spats, angry Krypto, and more! The new 'Superman' trailer has it all | The Mary Sue
Lois Lane and Clark Kent bickering about what Superman did and how the government reacted? A perfect moment in 'Superman's new trailer.
Not everything is great for Superman but still, he brings us hope. A new look at James Gunn’s Superman film shows a bit more of Clark’s (David Corenswet) relationship with Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) and what Superman dating a reporter can look like.

One of the most annoying aspects of the Superman lore is the idea that Lois Lane is a brilliant investigative reporter and yet cannot figure out that Superman and Clark Kent are the same man. Face-blindness is real but come on. In James Gunn’s DC world, it seems as if Lois is a bit more aware of Clark’s other life.
A new trailer for Superman, hitting theaters this July 11, was released that shows Clark and Lois doing an interview together after he agrees to allow her to talk to him as Superman. He’s not pretending to be Superman and she doesn’t seem to talk to him as if she doesn’t know he’s both Clark and Superman and it is a real change of pace for how their relationship works.
What’s really great about it is that Clark can push back at what Lois asks and she even tries to remind him that he’s supposed to be “Superman” in this moment and yet they’re basically bickering like a couple who have clearly had this conversation time and time again. Did I expect to see a couple’s spat between Lois and Clark come to life? No but I should have known James Gunn has me covered.
As much as I enjoyed Henry Cavill’s take on Superman, one thing was very obvious about it: It lacked Superman’s optimism and hope. He was upset with how people reacted to him, was angry, and it showed. Corenswet’s Superman on the other hand is trying to do what he feels is right and even when Lois questions him about it, he still remains strong in his belief that he was doing right by the world.
Superman wants to save people and stop fighting and that’s very much what we see him fighting for when he’s talking to Lois. Yes, we get to see him in action, flying around and trying to protect others but this scene with Lois really drives home how important a character like Clark is. He is willing to do what he thinks is right and face the consequences later.
The new trailer for Superman just makes me feel like we’re finally getting that symbol of hope back and I cannot wait to see what Gunn and company has in store for us.
