EastEnders fans say same thing as noughties icon returns to Albert Square
Zoe Slater's huge comeback sent shockwaves through the loyal BBC fanbase after a huge comeback twenty years after her dramatic exit.
EastEnders fans were all left saying the same thing after noughties icon Michelle Ryan returned to Albert Square after twenty years away from the soap. On Monday (June 16), BBC fans were glued to their screens as they watched more drama unfold in the Queen Vic, but one famous face they weren't expecting to see was Zoe Slater.
The 41-year-old soap star left the show back in 2005 after five years on the long-running show. The last time we saw Zoe she was hopping on a plane to Ibiza to start fresh on the sun-soaked island. More than 20 years on and it appears as though time hasn't been kind to the brunette beauty, who returned to the show in dramatic fashion. It didn't take long before fans flooded to X - formerly known as Twitter - to share their surprise at the jaw-dropping revelation online.

One user penned: "Obsessed with the 'scruffy, needs a wash' Zoe Slater" as another agreed: "Zoe Slater is BACK! #EastEnders and she's 100% the 'slapper' mother of that disgusting dog Joel." A third chimed in with: "Zoe Slater in need of a good scrub, snip and wash #EastEnders."
Speaking about her return to Walford, Michelle warned fans that "she's not the girl that left Walford". She told the press: "I can't say too much as there is a lot of drama to come, but Zoe is a mess.
"She's not the girl that left Walford twenty years ago, and she's been really struggling on her own. She has her defences up, but this week you will see that she needs help, but whether she is willing to accept it is another story."
The actress opened up about what made her want to come back to the long-running show after two decades, admitted that "happened at the right time".
Michelle gushed: "I'd already been thinking about a return because I'd met up with Kacey Ainsworth (who played Little Mo) and Kim Medcalfe (Sam Mitchell) and we were reminiscing our fond memories of the show, and I'd also joined social media and saw that therer was still a lot of love for the character.
"It just so happened at the same time, EastEnders had announced a new exec who was keen to explore the potential of a return as he was such a massive fan of Zoe and the Slaters, so both of our worlds aligned at the right time, and I'm so excited to be back.
"When Ben pitched me the storylines and when I read the scripts, I knew it was the right decision. It feels like coming home. After doing my first few scenes, it was like I'd never been away."
Fans will have to stay tuned to see what madness the tearaway will get up to in Albert Square. EastEnders airs on 7.30pm from Monday to Thursday on BBC One or catch up on BBC iPlayer.
