How to Vote for ‘American Idol’ (May 4 and May 5)
'American Idol' is back with two new live shows this week, during which the competition series' Top 10 will turn into the Top 7.
American Idol is back with two new episodes this week. The competition series is already nearing the season’s end, with the Top 10 contestants ready to vie for their chance to continue on.
The latest installment will kick off May 4 with Idol‘s Ladies’ Night. Contestants will be tasked with performing a song by an iconic women in music.
To help them ahead of the show, Idol has brought in Miranda Lambert to serve as the celebrity mentor. Not only that, but Lambert will also show the hopefuls how it’s done when she takes the stage herself during the live episode.
Fans will have to decide who they want to vote through to the Top 8 quickly. Host Ryan Seacrest will announce the final octet at the conclusion of Sunday’s show.
Votes can be cast starting at the beginning of the episode. Voting will close during the show’s final episode. As for how to make your voice heard, viewers can cast their votes on ABC’s website, through the American Idol app, or by texting their favorite artist’s number, which will appear onscreen during the episode, to 21523.
The following night, on May 5, Judges’ Song Choice night will return. The theme night adds a fun twist to the competition.
Judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie will each pick a song for all eight contestants.
The singer then gets to pick the song they want to perform out of the three, without knowing which judge suggested it. The judge whose picks are most often chosen will get to brag about their superior choices.
Artist-in-Residence Jelly Roll will advise the Top 8 on their performances before they take the stage live.
Like on Sunday night, viewers will have to be quick with their votes. The six contestants with the most amount of viewer support will advance on in the competition at the end of the show. Fans can vote with the same three methods as described above.
However, the episode won’t end with a Top 6. Instead, the judges will have the opportunity to save one of the two contestants up for elimination, creating a Top 7, all of whom will move on to next week’s performances.
American Idol airs live coast-to-coast at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET.
