Is Blake Shelton Gunning for Carson Daly's Job?
Blake Shelton may not work with him on 'The Voice' any more, but it looks like Carson Daly needs to keep an eye on his ambition.
Country singer Blake Shelton may have been burned out when he left âThe Voice,â but now it seems he may be gunning for Voice host Carson Dalyâs gig on another show.
Shelton is busy promoting his new album âFor Recreational Use Only.â But while he performed on âThe Today Showâ May 13, he also sat in for an absent Carson Daly. Daly was in California filming âThe Voice.â
Shelton filled in for Daly on his âToday Showâ segment âPopStartâ and brought his sarcastic humor to the broadcast. âTodayâ put up a montage of clips on Instagram showing some of his funniest moments.
The clip shows Shelton sitting on the couch with hosts Savannah Guthrie, Dylan Dreyer, Jenna Bush Hager and Craig Melvin. Shelton keeps a running stream of silly comments, revealing he watched âmostâ of âWicked,â and making a âhmmmmâ sound when asked if he would ever return to âThe Voiceâ as a judge.
At one point, Shelton quipped, âletâs change the music one more timeâ cutting to a commercial break. He also referred to Dalyâs PopStart segment as âPop Tart.â The caption of âThe Today Showâsâ Instagram post reads, âLooks like Blake is coming for your gig, @carsondaly. ???? #poptartâ

Carson Daly sent Blake Shelton a special surprise while he was on âThe Today Showâ set.
In a post showing a crew member delivering a massive bowl of fried calamari, the caption reads, âThere was a very special guest at @blakesheltonâs #CitiConcertSeries performance this morning âŚ. an extra large order of calamari, courtesy of his friend @carsondaly! The calamari, which is a unique request that appears on Sheltonâs rider, was one of the stars of the show this morning ???? ????â
After sharing it with the showâs hosts, Blake took the large bowl of fried squid with him as he headed off set outside to the Today Show Plaza for his performance. He gave it a front row seat while he sang, then was reunited with the bowl of squid after his show.

Jenna Bush Hager took a moment to find out who would be featured on Blake Sheltonâs âMount Rushmore of 90âs Country Music.â
Blake named Earl Thomas Conley, Mark Colley, Paul Overstreet and Travis Tritt as the top four country artists he listened to in the 1990s.
When asked who he likes today, Shelton sarcastically replied, âNobody!â
But then the singer backtracked and mentioned Zach Top and Ella Langley. In fact, Blake said a lot of todayâs artists sound more like the music he listened to in the 90âs.

During Blakeâs appearance, he got the opportunity to surprise one of his biggest fans.
âThe Today Showâ put up a video on Instagram showing Shelton walking down the row of barricades to hug a fan named Alexa from Pennsylvania.
According to the post, Alexa has seen the singer perform 19 times. But she had never met him in person until he came to give her a big hug.
Alexa and all of Sheltonâs fans were delighted when the singer performed not just new songs from âFor Recreational Use Only,â but also throwbacks to some favorites.
âThe Today Showâ posted a clip of Blake singing âHoney Beeâ from his 2011 album âRed River Blue.â A long string of comments on the post celebrated the throwback, saying âHeâs my favorite â¤ď¸â and âLove the The Cowboy . â¤ď¸????â and âVoice like honey ????â????â
