John Foster Covers Bonnie Raitt on 'American Idol'
As season 23 continues, John Foster is one of 10 remaining artists vying to become the next 'American Idol.'
John Foster may have won over the American Idol judges with a special slice of home. However, itâs undeniably his voice that has kept the Louisiana native in the competition week after week. Specifically his Top 12 performance of Randy Travisâ âI Told You Soâ had judge Carrie Underwood bursting with pride. As the competition pool narrows, each performance is more important than the last. And Foster proved why heâs a fan favorite with tonightâs rendition of a Bonnie Raitt classic.
For Ladies Night on American Idol, John Foster selected Bonnie Raittâs 1991 hit âSomething to Talk About.â
Tonightâs theme paid tribute to iconic women in music, with country star Miranda Lambert serving as mentor to the remaining 10 contestants. The 38-time ACM Award winner also celebrated 20 years of her breakout hit âKerosene.â
With his powerful vocals and traditional country sound, Foster has established himself as a season 23 frontrunner. He made quite the impression during his audition, needing host Ryan Seacrestâs assistance to haul in coolers of Cajun food for the judges.

Founded by his grandparents in 1982, Fosterâs family runs Benoitâs Country Meat Block butcher shop in Addis, near the Louisiana capital of Baton Rouge.
âTo have those judges appreciate that and enjoy it meant a lot to not just John Foster, but to myself and our whole family,â Fosterâs father, John âBuddyâ Foster Benoit Jr., told a local media outlet.

Any time youâre in the public eye, you run the risk of people youâve never met filling in the blanks of your life. Recently, American Idol finalist John Foster took to Facebook to address some of the more persistent rumors surrounding his time on the show. For example, some viewers believe he is related to country star Dwight Yoakum, and that Yoakum had inked him a deal with Sugar Hill Records.
âIâm not related to Dwight Yoakam, nor am I currently signed under any record label,â Foster clarified in a Facebook post.
He continued, âIf you see something about me thatâs not from my page (with the blue checkmark), thereâs a chance that it may not be true! I hope this helps yâall to know me better as a person now that yâall know more about my music.â
