Wasaga Beach Mayor Brian Smith said the historic investment by Sunray Group will complement smaller, family-owned inns, cottages and restaurants in the community, adding it represents local jobs, higher-value tourism and multi-day visits to the town, which is located at the southern end of Ontario’s Georgian Bay.
“Wasaga Beach is excited to partner with Sunray Group, as we continue to redevelop our beachfront commercial area and unlock our community’s full potential to become a thriving, year-round destination.”
An award-winning hotelier, Sunray will invest over $45 million to build the luxury hotel and other amenities near the town’s iconic beachfront and main tourism area. Construction is expected to begin in early 2026. The company will also invest $1.5 million to design and build a festival square next to the hotel, near the beachfront, which will be used by the municipality for outdoor entertainment and special events.

On the heels of the Sunray project announcement, Wasaga Beach began construction on Phase 1 of a new commercial and residential village in the same area of the community. The high quality, mixed-used development will feature a diverse range of residential and commercial spaces that will house new shops and cafés, complementing the luxury hotel development.
Wasaga Beach, which has been working to attract a premium-brand hotel to the beachfront for decades, welcomes over two million visitors a year.
