Mattie Pruitt Shows Off Her Sass During Latest 'American Idol' Performance
Mattie Pruitt isn't letting the fact that she's this year's youngest 'American Idol' contestant intimidate her.

Mattie Pruittâs talent was on full display Monday night. The youngest American Idol contestant this season, Pruitt wowed with a performance of âAlways Been You.â
The theme of the night was the Judgesâ Song Contest. Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan each picked a song for every single contestant to sing. The contestant then picked their choice out of the three options, without knowing which judge suggested the tune.
Pruitt decided to forego âI Need Youâ and âParachuteâ in favor of singing Bryanâs choice for her, âAlways Been Youâ by Jessie Murph.
âWhen I see Jessie Murph perform, it is all sass,â Bryan said, encouraging Pruitt to display even more of that going forward.
Underwood agreed, telling her, âI think weâre taking baby steps in the sass department and we just need more.
In an interview with the Fox affiliate in Illinois, Pruitt revealed her strategy as the competition winds down.
âIâm gonna really try to stick to my genre so that people arenât confused anymore,â she said. âAnd I really want them to know that I wanna be a country/ soulful artist. Iâm gonna try to just like stay in that area.â
She did just that during her Top 8-securing performance when she sang âThe House That Built Meâ by the nightâs mentor, Miranda Lambert.
âSheâs honestly like my idol because my whole familyâs obsessed with her and her music,â Pruitt gushed of Lambert. âSheâs just an amazing artist.â
