Rory McIlroy was in no mood to hang around after the early conclusion of his difficult PGA Championship week.
Just a month on from his Masters heroics, there were high hopes that McIlroy could claim another quickfire major title, especially at Quail Hollow, a course he loves.

McIlroy had time for a quick word with Rahm before he heading home
But sadly for the Northern Irishman, he endured an almighty hangover from his historic Grand Slam win.
After only just making the cut at the PGA Championship, a pair of 72s over the weekend left McIlroy on 3-over-par and in 49th place.
His performance was a far cry from the masterclass he put on at Augusta National in mid-April as the come down of his remarkable achievement hit home.
McIlroy spoke to the press for around 20 minutes prior to the tournament getting underway on Thursday.

But the five-time major winner elected to forgo his media duties for the rest of the week, not speaking to either TV cameras after his round or later in the press conference facility.
While the media missed out, Jon Rahm did catch McIlroy for a chat in the car park as the 36-year-old packed away his belongings before heading home.
The two Ryder Cup stars shared a brief word as the Spaniard passed through the lot and off to the first tee box to begin his final round.
It spoke to McIlroy’s struggles this week that he was ready to leave Quail Hollow long before leader Scottie Scheffler had even teed off on Sunday.

McIlroy’s lack of comments also come following the surprise news of his driver being deemed to be non-conforming at the PGA Championship.
It emerged on Friday that the club he had planned to use had failed tests conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA) on Tuesday, forcing the world no.2 to use a replacement.

It is not uncommon for normal wear and tear to render a club non-conforming by going over the allowable limit for the spring-like effect of the clubface.
McIlroy struggled off the tee during his opening round of 74 but did produce better on Friday, shooting 69 to make the cut on the number.
He did not speak to the media after either round and had just teed off in the weather-delayed third round when PGA of America chief championships officer Kerry Haigh issued a statement addressing the issue.
"We can confirm that the USGA was invited to do club testing at the PGA Championship, at the PGA of America's request," Haigh said.
"That testing program is consistent with the same level of support that the USGA provides to the PGA Tour and other championships, as part of their regular programs for driver testing.
"The standard process is for about a third of the field to be randomly tested under the program. That was the case at Quail Hollow this week.

"Finding driver heads that have crept over the line of conformance is not an unusual occurrence, especially for clubs that are hit thousands of times over a long period of time.
"The results are kept confidential to protect players, who are unaware the club has fallen out of conformance and not responsible for it falling out of conformance other than hitting the club thousands of times.
"Players are simply asked to change heads if necessary and all do without issue.
"To publicly identify players whose club did not conform can lead to that player being questioned unnecessarily. Neither the USGA nor the PGA of America have any concerns about player intent."
The next chance the media will get to question McIlroy on the incident is set to come at the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club.

McIlroy has not been confirmed in the field for that tournament as of yet but it is one of the PGA Tour’s eight signature events this season so it would be a surprise if the Northern Irishman does not tee it up on May 29.
McIlroy has been confirmed for the RBC Canadian Open on June 5 and will, of course, be one of the favourites at Oakmont for the 2025 US Open which starts on June 12.
