Postecoglou net worth and salary, Spurs boss' wife, comments on future
Ange Postecoglou has fought for everything in his career, but the Tottenham boss' wife and family have been by his side every step of the way, supporting him in the journey to the Europa League final
Ange Postecoglou is no stranger to a challenge, as his spell with Tottenham Hotspur clearly demonstrates.
The Australian is now on the cusp of winning silverware with Spurs, as they take on Manchester United in the Europa League final in Bilbao, Spain. Postecoglou will be hoping to prove his own words correct, and secure a trophy for the club who haven't hoisted one aloft since way back in 2008.
Despite all the pressure surrounding the 59-year-old, it doesn't seem to phase him; according to the man himself, he's been in this position plenty of times before.
Every managerial role he's taken on has been a rebuilding project, a fight against expectations, and a battle to prove his worth. At South Melbourne, he silenced critics who doubted a rising coach could deliver titles.
With the Australian national team, he reshaped the Socceroos in his own image, but he left before the World Cup.
In Japan, he arrived as an outsider and left as a champion. And at Celtic, he transformed a struggling squad into a relentless force of victory, winning five out of six trophies available in his time there.
Now, at Tottenham, he faces the most significant challenge of his career – leading a club that has long battled to secure major trophies. On Wednesday, United are the only team standing in Postecoglou's way in reaching the ultimate goal.
His dedication to offensive football has earned him praise, but as the season advanced and injuries revealed weaknesses in his strategy, the real scrutiny began for the man in the hot seat in north London. So here's everything we know about him away from the dugout.
Ange Postecoglou's net worth Ange Postecoglou is worth millions now (Image: Juanma - UEFA/UEFA via Getty Images)Postecoglou's career has been a gradual climb, with no shortcuts and no lucrative moves until he realised they were earned.
His initial coaching roles in Australia barely kept him above board, and when he was dismissed as the national youth coach, the young manager had to move in with his mother-in-law to make ends meet.
Now, he ranks among the top-earning managers in England. His reported salary at Tottenham is around £5million annually, a substantial increase from his Celtic days, which kept him for £2m a year.
The straightforward Spurs boss now has an estimated net worth of around £9m. However, he certainly doesn't splash his cash on high-end suits or lavish watches when manning the touchline.
Ange Postecoglou's wife and family Ange Postecoglou says his wife Georgia has been a massive beacon of hope during his career (Image: Ian MacNicol/Getty Images)Family has always been at the core of Postecoglou's approach to life, including his no-nonsense approach. His wife, Georgia, who first met the future Spurs coach in the 1990s at South Melbourne, wasn't initially bowled over by his charms.
"He's not charismatic, he's not a charmer," Georgia once said in an ABC documentary titled 'The Australian Story: The Age of Ange'. "I didn't get why people respected him so much."
However, her perspective shifted as she got to know him better, revealing that her understanding of him deepened over time. She added: "It was only afterwards I got to understand him as a person."
Their partnership has weathered every hard moment, from professional setbacks to challenging relocations, and they've celebrated each victory together.
Postecoglou's family have been an unwavering baton of support (Image: Ian MacNicol/Getty Images)For Postecoglou, it's been openly acknowledged that without Georgia’s unwavering support, his career's tougher moments could have been difficult to overcome.
The Postecoglou family has grown over the years, including three sons – James, Alexi, and Max — whose upbringing has been marked by the highs and lows of their father's football journey.
The game’s demands meant sacrifices, with Georgia recalling a particularly close call concerning the birth of their youngest.
"Max came early," she told The Sun. "Ange was supposed to fly to London, and I told him, 'You're not leaving me.'" The day after Max was born, Ange was already on a plane – such is the pace of life in the Postecoglou household.
Handling difficulty in north London Ange Postecoglou has been under pressure this season (Image: Carl Recine/Getty Images)The Premier League season has been a difficult one for Ange and his squad, with 21 losses so far across a 38 game season – their worst run in 20 years.
Some of the heaviest defeats this campaign include 6-3 and 5-1 drubbing by champions Liverpool, a 4-2 loss to Wolves and most recently, a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa.
While Postecoglou has been handed a difficult hand with injuries and suspensions this season, it hasn't stopped fans and pundits alike from criticising his lack of change to his footballing tactics.
Even leading up to the final, Spurs will be without James Maddison for the game due to a knee injury picked up in the first leg of the semi-final win over Bodo/Glimt.
Ange Postecoglou could lose his job; even if he wins the Europa League (Image: Carl Recine/Getty Images)Dejan Kulusevski will also miss the final, after just returning from injury in April from a foot issue that kept him out for seven games.
Despite this, reports have stated that the Tottenham hierarchy may decide to remove Postecoglou from his role as manager, even if he wins the Europa League trophy on Wednesday evening.
So despite the possibility of European glory for the first time since 1984, chairman Daniel Levy may still decide to give the Aussie the boot, due to the club's worst Premier League season in two decades.
Uncertain future at Tottenham – 'Not done yet'So, while concerns remain over whether the Spurs board will sack Postecoglou, the 59-year-old backs himself to continue with the club and bring success to north London.
Speaking to the media in Bilbao, the veteran boss spoke about his past in leaving clubs with success, and insisted that he will be "comfortable" no matter what happens.
Postecoglou said: "I've been in this position before where the big game was the last game I managed. It's not unusual territory for me.
Ange Postecoglou is ready for whatever comes next (Image: Michael Steele/Getty Images)"I qualified for a World Cup and left. Won the Treble with Celtic and left. Won at Brisbane and left. It's actually more common than you think.
"I've always navigated it pretty well. I'm pretty good at just making sure all my focus is on giving this football club the best opportunity it's had for a while to do something special.
"Whatever happens after that, I'm very, very comfortable that I'll continue on trying to win trophies wherever I am."
But despite handling his potential impending doom in north London well, Postecoglou insists his future is far from over with Spurs.
Postecoglou still backs himself for glory (Image: Alex Pantling - UEFA/UEFA via Getty Images)He added: "I don't think my job is done here. I really feel like we are building something and what a trophy does is hopefully accelerate that. So, I still think there is work to be done.
"It is quite obvious with the challenges we've had this year, which I think are well chronicled, but there is some reasoning in the context of that, but also there has been some growth and I would like to see through.
"Whether that happens or not is not that important right now, but I don't think this job is finished, far from it. I certainly feel there is some growth there that we can take this club to where it needs to be."
