The Boston Red Sox are receiving a lot of negative attention for making the decision to cut ties with Rafael Devers once and for all.
Devers will get a fresh start in San Francisco, but the Red Sox will have to deal with the consequences, good or bad, of trading one of their best players once again.
As trade grades rolled in Monday, and Dennis Lin of The Athletic didn't hold back on his criticism.

"For Boston, (Kyle) Harrison and (Jordan) Hicks will bring talent and relatively inexpensive club control to a flawed pitching staff," wrote Lin. "(James) Tibbs, according to The Athletic's Keith Law, began this season as a borderline-top-100 prospect. The departure of Devers ends a months-long saga between a disgruntled star and a disillusioned franchise."
Devers becomes the third star the Red Sox were quick to part ways with, as he follows Xander Bogaerts and Mookie Betts out the door. Boston needed pitching, but the two main pitchers, Hicks and Harrison haven't exactly been promising this season.
"It's an underwhelming return for one of the best hitters in baseball," wrote Lin.
The return also includes Tibbs, an outfield prospect, and pitching prospect Jose Bello. However, trading for prospects can either pan out really good or really bad.
Lin was among a group of four writers who provided trade grades for the Giants and Red Sox. He was very complimentary of Buster Posey's squad. As for Craig Breslow's group? Not so much.
"C-minus," wrote Lin as his final grade for Boston.
The Red Sox now have to hope they can keep Alex Bregman beyond the rest of the season even if he opts out. Otherwise, this trade could blow up in their faces before it even has a chance to look good.
