Soccer Aid's Sam Thompson speechless as he's given huge news live on air
Sam Thompson was left speechless as he was given some big news on Soccer Aid tonight after Louis Tomlinson was announced for England's starting 11 this evening
Sam Thompson was left speechless tonight after learning some huge news live on Soccer Aid. The TV star had been forced to pull out of the football game to raise money for Unicef after injuring himself.
Whilst he wasn't able to play due to a calf injury, Sam is now part of the England coaching team alongside the likes of Tyson Fury and Wayne Rooney. He joined Coleen Rooney and hosts Alex Scott and Dermot O'Leary to discuss the challenge.
‌
Sam had tore his calf during the five day event, which saw him travel from Stamford Bridge, Chelsea's home stadium in London to Manchester United's home ground Old Trafford. As part of his challenge, Sam travelled hundreds of miles.
‌
Tonight, it was revealed live on air that he has raised more than £2million from his challenge. Coleen Rooney made the announcement of the whopping total - a huge £2,075,564, leaving Sam speechless.
"Oh my god. I didn’t think we’d make two million. I can’t believe it," he said excitedly, as host Alex quipped: "Speechless, that normally doesn’t happen to Sam right?" Sam then went on to thank those who had donated.

"I said this a million times but thank you to anybody that has donated. You are true heroes. Thank you so so much. You know the work Unicef do and this is going to help so many kids," he said.
Earlier this week, Sam announced he wasn't able to play in the game and quipped he had joined the "dark side".
He said previously: "I'm still very sore, still got the torn calf, however I am here at Soccer Aid HQ and it does not get better than this. We've still got the management team of England, we've got Vicky McClure, Tyson Fury , who's stepping into some new shoes and Harry Redknapp ...But also because I'm not going to be able to run around, you've also got me, part of the management team.
‌
"Come on baby! ... I came here with high hopes and went to see Gary the physio and I can kick a ball from a standing start, but when it comes to like general chaos of playing competitive sport there's just no way. I cant really run properly so yeah. They were very kind and said we still want you to be a part, so I get to go on the dark side with Tyson Fury."
Sam had told The Mirror there was talk of him being medically discharged from his challenge because he was in so much pain. He said: "I was crying into my physio’s arms on day one, because I was just so terrified that I was going to be that guy who took this on and got medically discharged. They were talking about doing that but I was like 'no'. I just got into a fast hobble and that just about worked."

However, he battled through and raised a huge amount of money for the charity.
