Taylor Swift Admitted Joe Jonas' Purity Ring Was 'Actually a Plus' for Her When They Dated

Taylor Swift and Joe Jonas had a brief romantic relationship in 2008. Swift toured with the Jonas Brothers and said they had fun together. They avoided confirming their relationship while they were together, but Swift said there would be some benefits to dating Jonas. She shared why she liked that he wore a purity ring.
In the early stages of their careers, the Jonas Brothers wore purity rings, symbolizing their commitment to abstaining from sex until marriage. Swift dated Jonas during this time and received a question about whether or not she saw the ring as a dealbreaker. She didnât think it was.
âI donât ever talk about how I feel about that sort of thing because it makes people look at me sexually, which has never been a goal of mine,â she told Philadelphia Magazine in 2008. âSo, honestly, deal-breaker? Thatâs actually a plus for me.â
Still, she wouldnât admit to dating him.
âHeâs an amazing guy, and anybody would be lucky to be dating him,â she said.
While they tried to keep their relationship under wraps while they were together, Swift and Joeâs break up was very public. Swift revealed that Jonas broke up with her in a brief phone call.
âSome day, Iâm gonna find somebody really, really, really great, whoâs right for me âŚâ she said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. âWhen I find that person that is right for me, heâll be wonderful and when I look at that person, Iâm not even gonna be able to remember the boy who broke up with me over the phone in 25 seconds when I was 18.â
They each went on to write songs about each other. Jonas also explained the phone call Swift referenced.
âFor those who have expressed concern over the â27 secondâ phone call, I called to discuss feelings with the other person,â he said on his MySpace (via People). âThose feelings were obviously not well received. I did not end the conversation. Someone else did. Phone calls can only last as long as the person on the other end of the line is willing to talk.â
While the Jonas Brothers said they felt proud of their purity rings when they first showed them off, they started to regret them as they aged.
âPurity rings were to wait for the right person, when the time was right. And hereâs the catch,â Jonas said on The Late Late Show With James Corden. âWhen youâre like 12 and you do that, because we grew up in a church and our dad was a pastor, so it kind of just came natural for everyone we grew up with to go through this, and get one, and say, âIâm gonna wait for the right person.â Some people would say, âIâm gonna wait until marriage.â When youâre about 15, 16, and start dating, and you go, âWait a minute. What did I say I was gonna do?ââ
They eventually took off their rings. Kevin Jonas said that in 2013, he became the first one to stop wearing his.
