Basketball Wives star Brittany Renner announced her divorce from Kevin Gates after just 52 days of marriage, revealing details about their split

Brittany Renner is a married woman no longer.

Renner announced she and Kevin Gates divorced after 52 days of marriage during an interview with REAL 92.3 LA on Saturday, June 7. “We got married April 6 and divorced May 28,” Renner said. She added that fans don’t need to worry about her wellbeing. “I don’t feel like it’s a sucky situation because what is meant to be is always going to be.”

“I followed my heart and that’s what more than most people can say, and I think when you do that, you get all the clarity you need and there’s no stone left unturned and there’s no regret,” she continued. “A lot of people, their issue is, even just in dating, in marriage, it’s people just don’t give it their all. They don’t just go for it. But I feel like when you do, you’re at peace with whatever happens because I gave 100 percent.”

Renner also spoke about what it’s like to navigate divorce as a Muslim woman.

“There is a 90 day waiting period in Islam, where you have 90 days to see if you’re pregnant because then he would be responsible. But also in those 90 days, it’s for recommendation because the law wants you to stay married. And during those 90 days, you are not to entertain anybody romantically,” Renner explained. “So, what I will say is Islam has made my life easier. Honestly, I don’t think anybody gets married to not stay married. So this is a nice 90 day reset, just focusing on myself.”

Renner had nothing but positive things to say about Gates and her newfound religions in an interview with People published May 4.

“Islam has made my life better in every single category. And like my husband says, the closer you get to God, the more you get. And literally in every category of my life. I mean, dreams happen,” she said before showing off her engagement ring. “It is been really beautiful. It’s changed my life. It’s for the better.”

The outlet also asked how Renner knew Gates was the person she was meant to be with. “All I can say is, is that I’m with the person that I quite literally dreamed of,” she continued. “And to be able to just wake up next to him and spend time with him, even to have him here behind me, it’s like so surreal. He’s just the most beautiful person inside and out that I’ve ever met.”

Renner met Gates in 2022 backstage at Rolling Loud Miami, and she later starred in his music video for “Bad For Me” in September of the same year. Things seemed to cool off between the pair until March 2025, when the former couple popped back up in the public consciousness.

Gates was hit with allegations of infidelity at the same time. A woman named Persia said she was his girlfriend during the time Renner and Gates’ relationship developed. She also claimed Gates was separated from ex-wife Dreka Gates. Gates has not addressed the allegations made by Persia, though in his song “Dreka” he raps, “Took the blame in interviews and made it look like I was trippin’/ Made the ‘Dreka’ song, lied to the world while trying to protect her image.”
