Getting ready for big fancy events can be pretty stressful on just about anyone. But when youâre a pro like Kim Kardashian and going to the Met Gala for the 12th year, it may seem like a breeze. However, she even canât plan for everything and cameras captured her reaction after a security guard stepped on her dress as she left the Ritz-Carlton and headed to The Metropolitan Museum of Art for fashionâs biggest night.
As cameras rolled, the reality TV star put her hand up but did not lose her composure and avoided a disaster of tripping or falling.
Now that the video has gone viral, a body language expert is revealing what emotion Kardashian showed at that moment when she turned around to see the guard who was on her dress.
Darren Stanton is a body language and behavioral expert with a degree in psychology. He previously worked as a police officer and used his expertise to uncover the truth when interviewing hundreds of suspects. He later moved into media and TV as a consultant and has been dubbed the âHuman Lie Detector.â
Speaking on behalf of Betfair Slots, Stanton shared with Showbiz Cheat Sheet that the mother of four didnât show anger but more âfrustrationâ in the moment the dress was stepped on with her hand gesture.
âI wouldnât say Kim was angry after a security guard accidentally stepped on her dress ahead of the Met Gala,â Stanton said. âShe held out her hand as if to say âstopâ, which was her way of taking control of the situation. It looked more like mild frustration than anger. Kim seems to have a high tolerance when it comes to things like this, but I do think there was a level of frustration as she could have fallen over. Holding her hand out was her way of saying: âstop, hold on, calm down.'â
The expert added, âOn the carpet, she came across as very confident and composed. Her dress appeared to restrict her movement slightly, which stopped her from making any big gestures or widening her stance. But based on her posture and facial expressions, she seemed extremely self-assured and in control â definitely a reflection of how she was feeling internally as she posed for photos.â
After she arrived to the event, the SKIMS founder stopped on the red carpet to discuss her look with Vogue saying: âI just love Chrome Hearts and we wanted to have our little take on it. We wanted them to really design itâitâs a vest suit with a dress.
Kardashian then talked about how the day had been going with no mention of the viral moment when she left her hotel.
âItâs actually been a very chill day, a very very chill day,â she shared. âEvery time I come to the Met, I love to bring my oldest daughter with me, just to see me get ready. All her aunties are in the hotel and weâre all getting ready together, so itâs a fun few days.â
Showbiz Cheat Sheet acknowledges that conditions and cultures can impact body language and is sensitive to all backgrounds.
