Man United sanction instant £92m response to crushing Europa League final defeat

Manchester United will be looking towards the end of a disastrous season after losing the Europa League final on Wednesday evening.
United's 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao means the Reds will have no European football at Old Trafford next term. Ruben Amorim's team end the season at home to Aston Villa on Sunday with their lowest-ever Premier League finish already confirmed.
And attention will now turn towards the summer transfer window, with new signings desperately needed. Two players who could be on their way to the club are Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.
The Reds see Cunha as a key target in the upcoming summer transfer window, as they seek to improve their attacking output under Amorim. The Brazilian's impressive tally of 15 Premier League goals from 31 appearances during the 2024/2025 campaign is also said to have attracted interest from top-flight rivals Arsenal, but United reportedly hold a particular sway for him.
Despite signing a new deal at Molineux in February, the 25-year-old is likely to leave the West Midlands club, given the £62.5 million release clause in his contract. The Manchester Evening News understands that Cunha remains "optimistic" about a potential move to Old Trafford in the summer.
United are also targeting Delap, who has a £30m release clause in his contract, which was made active after the Tractor Boys' Premier League relegation was confirmed. However, United's absence from all European competitions next season may put that deal in some doubt with Chelsea also linked.
Article continues belowDespite United's struggles this season. Amorim shared his belief in April that United are having no trouble attracting potential transfer targets.
"It's Manchester United," said Amorim when asked how big an attraction the club is. "What I feel is there are a lot of players who want to play for our club and I know that if you look at our club in the moment, with all the problems with the staff and people going, changing coach and the results, it looks like a little bit of a problem.
"But we have a clear idea. That is the easiest part to explain to a player. Then it is Manchester United. Everyone wants to play for Manchester United."
