Michael McStay's family have released a heartbreaking statement mourning the actor's loss.
Television favourite Michael McStay has passed away at the age of 92, his family have confirmed. The beloved actor, famed for his appearances on Coronation Street and Doctor Who, succumbed to heart failure, as disclosed by those close to him in a heartfelt statement.
A representative for the actor expressed their sorrow: "It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Michael McStay, an actor of the highest standing and talented writer, whose career across stage, screen and radio spanned over six decades."

Michael's illustrious acting journey culminated with his portrayal of Alan Hoyle on the iconic Corrie set, a role he assumed in 2011 when he took over from John Woodvine, reports the Mirror.

Beyond his stint on the ITV soap, Michael graced other hit shows including No Hiding Place, Doctor Who, Blunt, and Thatcher: The Final Days, not to mention building a formidable filmography with titles like Peter Yates' Robbery.
He wrote numerous plays for Radio 4 and the popular 1984 ITV comedy Pull the Other One.

Tributes have been pouring in on X, previously Twitter, where fans have been quick to honour the veteran actor.
One user lamented: "Sad to see that Michael McStay has passed away."
Others fondly recalled his performance: "Absolutely adored him in Corrie as Alan Hoyle in the John Stape storyline.

"Both him and the late Jean Fergusson were brilliant in the basement episodes."
Another shared their condolences with two sad emoji faces.

Michael was born in Essex in February 1933, according to IMDb. His mini biography written by a contributor on the popular TV and film website says he studied a degree in Drama, French and Philosophy at Bristol University.
According to the Daily Mail, Michael then then spent two years of National Service as an officer posted in Cyprus, during the Cyprus Emergency, before returning to England to embark on his acting career.
He also spent a lot of time in France. In 1967, he married actress Jennifer Clulow.

The now-83-year-old is best know for her roles in The Avengers, Keeping Up Appearances, and No Hiding Place.

The actor, who has portrayed Craig Tinker on the ITV series for nearly 14 years, announced earlier this year that he would be hanging up his character's police uniform.
However, fans are gutted at how writers cast him out of the programme. Taking to social media following his exit, fans blasted writers for making Colson's character look a "fool" as they said he deserved a lot more.
In January, alongside an image of himself in character as Craig the cop, Colson confirmed on social media: "Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinker's time on the Cobbles is to come to end in 2025."
