Practical Magic 2 release date confirmed – and Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock are returning
How are the Owens sisters doing in 2025? Here's when you'll find out
Double, double, toil and trouble... spooky season has come early with this huge news from Hollywood.
While it was announced back in June last year that Practical Magic would be returning to cinemas with a new story of magic and mystery, Warner Bros have just confirmed some big names will be returning to the project, as well as an exciting release date.
We last saw sisters Sally and Gillian Owens in 1998, and the original film has since gone on to become one of our go-to Halloween viewings. Now, we can look forward to more creepy curses and sinister spells in Practical Magic 2.

Practical Magic: What happens in the original film?In the original film, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman played sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, who were descended from a long line of witches. Raised by their aunts after their parents' death from a family curse in a small Massachusetts town, the sisters were taught the uses of practical magic as they grew up. From this point on, be warned that spoilers for Practical Magic follow.
The town are suspicious of the sisters, and have been for centuries, ever since their ancestor Maria Owens survived an attempted execution for witchcraft. Heartbroken when the father of her unborn child left her, Maria cast a spell which turned into a curse, meaning any man an Owens woman loves would be doomed.

While Gillian moves from relationship to relationship across the country, Sally has two daughters with a man called Michael, but is widowed. She moves back in with her aunts, but vows to never teach her daughters magic.
Gillian returns, needing help to escape an abusive man, Jimmy, but things don't go quite to plan, and when a state investigator Gary comes looking for Jimmy, Sally realises this could be the man of her dreams. Jimmy spirit still lingers, taking shape in Gillian's body, but when Sally asks the town to form a coven to exorcise his spirit, the Owens curse is broken and the sisters finally find acceptance.
Practical Magic 2: CastGet your brooms at the ready – two of Practical Magic's leading ladies have been confirmed to reprise their roles. While the sequel was announced in June 2024, the studio shared a post on X with some very exciting news.
"The spell is cast. The date is set. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return," Warner Bros wrote, revealing we'll be seeing Sally and Gillian back on our screens.
Other cast members we'd love to see returning are Stockard Channing, who played Frances Owens and Evan Rachel Wood as Kylie Owens.
Practical Magic 2: TrailerThere's no trailer for the sequel just yet, but the cauldron is bubbling as production is in the works. We'll update you as soon as we have any more information, so keep checking back here.

Practical Magic 2: Release dateWe'll have to stick with the original Practical Magic film for this year's spooky season – it was just announced that the sequel will be coming on 18 September, 2026, as Warner Bros confirmed in the post on X. That gives everyone plenty of time to see the film before the clock strikes midnight on Halloween.
