Spaceballs 2 already has the perfect title thanks to Mel Brooks’ Yogurt
God willing, the creators of the now confirmed Spaceballs 2 will give it the title Mel Brooks’ Yogurt gave us in the original movie.
Spaceballs 2 is officially going to ludicrous speed. The long-awaited sequel to Mel Brooks’ 1987 cult classic is finally happening – and it already has the perfect title, courtesy of Yogurt himself.
When it first crash-landed into theaters, Spaceballs received a mixed critical reception. But over the decades, it’s become an emblem of sci-fi snark thanks to its skewering of Star Wars, Star Trek, and every space opera trope out there.
The original stars Bill Pullman as Han Solo spoof Lone Starr, Daphne Zuniga as Princess Leia parody Princess Vespa, and Rick Moranis as tongue-in-cheek Darth Vader, Dark Helmet.

Then there’s Brooks, who served as director while also taking on the roles of President Skroob and Yogurt. Despite turning 99 this month, he’ll be reprising his role as the golden Yoda for Spaceballs 2 – and he’s also the guy who gave us the title.
Spaceballs 2 needs to be subtitled The Search for More MoneyMGM
While plot details about the sequel are being kept under wraps, now that it’s been confirmed, the creators would be missing a trick if they don’t name it Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money.

The phrase was first uttered by Yogurt during a now-iconic scene in the original film. After he helps Lone Starr and Barf (John Candy), the former asks Yogurt, “Will we ever see you again?”
Yogurt replies, “Who knows? God willing, we’ll all meet again in Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money.”
It’s the perfect example of the comedy movie’s countless meta jabs at Hollywood’s obsession with sequels and product tie-ins, calling out the commercial machine behind genre filmmaking.

And this is why it would be the perfect title now that the sequel’s confirmed. It wouldn’t just poke fun at that same machine, but it would mock itself. This kind of self-awareness is exactly what made Spaceballs work in the first place.
Many fans agree, with one writing about the news, “It better be called Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money.” Another said, “I swear if they don’t call it Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money, what even is the point?”

A third added, “If it’s not called Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money, it will be an absolute travesty.”
What we know so far
Amazon MGM Studios announced the news that the sequel is happening and set to release in 2027 with a rather tongue-in-cheek opening crawl poking fun at the ever-growing world of franchise filmmaking.
Brooks is set to reprise his role as Yogurt, although Strays helmer Josh Greenbaum will be taking over directing duties, from a script by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad.

Pullman and Moranis will also be returning as their respective characters, with Keke Palmer joining the Spaceballs 2 cast as a newcomer.
What’s more, Pullman’s son – Thunderbolts star Lewis Pullman – will also reportedly be starring in the new movie, although details about his character are being kept under wraps for now.
Brooks also shared the teaser on X/Twitter, writing, “I told you we’d be back.”
Even though plot details haven’t been revealed, we can expect plenty more meta quips, with the sequel having a wealth of content to poke fun at.

The opening crawl teaser trailer acknowledges this, stating, “Thirty-eight years ago, there was only one Star Wars trilogy.
“But since then there have been… a prequel trilogy, a sequel trilogy, a sequel to the prequel, a prequel to the sequel, countless TV spinoffs, a movie spinoff of the TV spinoff, which is both a prequel and a sequel.
“Not to mention… two Dunes, seven Jurassic Parks, two Avatars plus three upcoming Avatars making five Avatars, 36 MCU movies with two different Robert Downey Jr.’s, DCU attempt number one, DCU attempt number two, an animated Lion King, a live action animated Lion King, a live action animated Lion King prequel, eight Harry Potter movies, a TV series remaking the same eight Harry Potter movies, a whole streaming service of Star Trek, seven Alien movies (two of which were also Predator movies, not to be mistaken for the six Predator movies that are not also Alien movies), one Prometheus (which is kind of an Alien movie), four Beatles movies? And… Oppenheimer.
