The upcoming season will continue directly from the events of last year's second instalment, which saw Seong Gi-hun (portrayed by Lee Jung-jae) endeavour to instigate a revolt against the cruel games.
However, his supposed ally Oh Young-il (Lee Byung-hun) resumed his clandestine role as the Front Man, thwarting the rebellion and killing Gi-hun's close friend Park Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan).
The fresh trailer carries on this narrative with Gi-hun being returned to the dormitory in a coffin, where he is seemingly forced to remain handcuffed between games. It also features another game where participants are compelled to select different coloured balls to form teams, separating mother and son Jang Geum-ja (Kang Ae-shim) and Park Yong-sik (Yang Dong-geun) for the first time.
Additionally, there's more behind-the-scenes action with the Front Man, police officer Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon) and the games' armed guards.
Fans will be delighted to see the return of the enigmatic VIPs who made such an impact during the end of Squid Game's inaugural season.
However, one detail from the trailer, saved until the very last moment, has ignited a storm of speculation.
The moment the title Squid Game 3 flashed on screen, a baby's wail pierced the air, hinting that Kim Jun-hee (Jo Yu-ri) is set to welcome her child.
The trailer drop on YouTube had fans flooding the comments with their heart-wrenching predictions for the newborn's fate in the upcoming season.
One viewer couldn't contain their shock: "I HEARD A BABY CRYING, JUN HEE GAVE BIRTH OMG," while another pleaded: "SAVE THE BABY."
A third was struck by the teaser's silent power: "The way this teaser didn't even need dialogue but still managed to give me absolute chills."
Another summed up the intense impact of the preview: "The way this teaser gave ZERO dialogue but managed to scream chaos, betrayal, and bloodshed... Gi-hun's back, the Front Man's lurking, and that baby cry at the end??
"Nah, Season 3 is about to destroy us mentally and emotionally. I'm not ready, but also... I NEED IT NOW."
One fan was already overwhelmed: "They purposefully added the baby's cry separately I'm sobbing."
And yet another viewer felt the ominous tone: "That baby cry and seeing the mom and son looking at each other like that just sent chills down my spine."
With the final instalment of Netflix's Squid Game on the horizon, it's poised to be the must-watch event of the year, so mark your diaries for its grand unveiling.
Squid Game season 3 will be released Friday, 27th June on Netflix.
