Earlier this morning, Marvel Studios tweeted a video of the actor, who has long portrayed James “Bucky” Buchanan Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic universe as early as films like Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), replacing a poster for the latest Marvel installment film Thunderbolts*, directed by Jake Schreier, at a bus stop.

Stan, clad in black from head to toe like his character Bucky often wears, and definitely does so in his latest MCU film, can be spotted on a stroll with some rolled up posters, and once he sees one at the bus stop, he stops to place a poster that reads *The New Avengers over it. Pieces of tape have been placed at the top and bottom of the poster’s frame.
Ahead of this latest promotional clip for the film, which arrived in theaters Friday, May 2 and opened to $74M, Marvel also posted a video of Stan’s co-star Florence Pugh, who plays Yelena Belova in the MCU, tearing off the *Thunderbolts title to reveal a *The New Avengers title beneath it on a poster for the film surrounded by the cast, Olga Kurylenko, Hannah John-Kamen, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, Stan, Geraldine Viswanathan, Lewis Pullman and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

The video looked to be taken at the Los Angeles premiere for the film, as Pugh was wearing her seafoam green dress and Viswanathan was wearing her mustard yellow gown and hood in the video.

Fans and moviegoers had long been questioning why there was an asterisk on the end of the film’s title, and Marvel has answered this question, spelling out what the star symbolizies, but not renaming the film. Those who have seen the movie will know that Thunderbolts comes from the name of Yelena’s pee-wee league soccer team, though the group of very different, formerly lone wolf characters — Winter Soldier, Ghost, John Walker and Alexei Shostakov aka Red Guardian — disagree on the nod to Belova’s childhood memories.
Thunderbolts* precedes The Fantastic Four: First Steps as the next film entry in the MCU, and the second post credit scene in Schreier’s film hints at the connection between the two films with a foreign spaceship with the signature number 4 on it arriving in space, much to the surprise of the group now known as The New Avengers, who were arguing about Anthony’s Sam Wilson aka Captain America, filing a copyright lawsuit for their new name.
The Fantastic Four arrives in theaters July 25, 2025. Marvel’s Ironheart series will stand between the two movies when it premieres on the streamer June 24.
