Drummer Zak Starkey has officially left The Who.
Itâs been a bad week for drummers in iconic rock bands â a matter of hours after Foo Fighters jettisoned Josh Freese (leaving him âshocked and disappointedâ) it seems that The Who have now parted ways with Zak Starkey.
The drummer has been a core part of The Who for over 20 years, but recent shows at Londonâs Royal Albert Hall seemed to bring long-standing issues to the fore. Zak Starkey went public and said he had been fired for âover playingâ â with the band then issuing a statement saying the disagreement had been smoothed over.
Earlier today The Whoâs Pete Townshend shared yet another statement, detailing that Zak Starkey had indeed left the band. In an official note on The Whoâs social media, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey write:
The Who are heading for retirement, whereas Zak is 20 years younger and has a great future with his new band and other exciting projects. He needs to devote all his energy into making it all a success. We both wish him all the luck in the world. Scott Devours â Who fans will know him  from Rogerâs solo shows â will be replacing Zak. We hope all our fans will welcome him.

In response, Zak Starkey has shared a statement, claiming that he was asked to tell the public he had quit The Who â but he refused.
I was fired two weeks after reinstatement and asked to make a statement saying I had quit The Who to pursue my other musical [endeavours]. This would be a lie. I love The Who and would never had quit. So I didnât make the statement âŚ. quitting The Who would also have let down the countless amazing people who stood up for me (thank you all a million times over and more) thru the weeks of mayhem of me going in an out an in an out an in an out like a bleedin squeezebox x
The Who will play a North American farewell tour later this year, with Scott Devours on drums. Could Zak Starkeyâs next move be rejoining a reformed OasisâŚ? The Manchester legends have yet to confirm the line-up for this summerâs enormous reunion shows, but speculation is rife that with space in his diary Zak could return to the fold.

, Ji Han Na (Kim So Hyun), Kim Jong Hyun (Lee Sang Yi), Go Man Sik (Heo Sung Tae), and Shin Jae Hong (Tae Won Suk)âwho become police officers through a special recruitment program. Swapping medals for badges, they take on a world full of corruption, deception, and injustice.
First, the âHeroâ version of the main poster contrasts the glorious past of the medalists standing tall on the podium with the gritty reality they now face as police officers. Boxing gold medalist Yoon Dong Joo, shooting gold medalist Ji Han Na, fencing silver medalist Kim Jong Hyun, wrestling bronze medalist Go Man Sik, and discus throw bronze medalist Shin Jae Hong all became heroes who received nationwide cheers after pushing themselves to the limitâscraping their knees, getting blisters on their hands and feet, and running until their mouths tasted of iron.
However, after the Olympic flame cooled and they were forced to end their athletic careers for various reasons, they were confronted with a harsh reality. Now, as special recruits in the police force, they are shown sitting exhausted on the floor below the podium, their bodies battered and bruised from sweat and toil. This image vividly conveys the weight of their difficult new reality, standing in stark contrast to the day when everyone was burning with passion.â
The âWinnerâ version of the main poster captures the Good Boy avengers as they boldly confront criminals of injustice and immorality by standing up to them with rules and principlesâseizing victory once again.
The production team remarked, âThe two versions of the main poster released this time visually encapsulate the narrative that âGood Boyâ will unfold. Both the glory of the days when they won medals and the tough battles they face now are all part of âGood Boy.â Youâll be able to experience this exhilarating story, full of energy, laughter, action, youth, and justice, on screen starting from May 31. We hope youâll join us for the first broadcast, which is now just ten days away.â
âGood Boyâ is set to premiere on May 31 at 10:40 p.m. KST.
