Chris McCausland shares why he missed BAFTA win as Strictly takes trophy
Strictly Come Dancing star Chris McCausland was missing in action at the BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday evening as he took home the award for must-see moment.

Chris McCausland has shared the reason behind missing the BAFTA ceremony, and it had nothing to do with any doubt over winning!
The drama around Strictly Come Dancing didn't deter audiences from voting for Dianne Buswell and Chris' emotive waltz to "You'll Never Walk Alone" as TV's most unforgettable moment. However, Chris was notably absent when it came time to collect the accolade, leaving Dianne to graciously accept the recognition.

Dianne represented the pair at the awards, receiving the honour for their poignant dance routine which showcased her professional partnership with the visually impaired comedian, Chris.

Their award-winning "blackout" performance became an internet sensation; it culminated with Chris covering Dianne's eyes as darkness enveloped the set, symbolising his reality. The reveal brought the audience back to light with Chris effortlessly rotating, Dianne lifted atop his shoulders, against a dramatic backdrop of pyrotechnics.
On stage last night, an emotional Dianne articulated: "In one minute and 30 seconds of a dance, I feel like this told such a story. A story of hope, determination, resilience and vulnerability. This moment meant so much to the both of us, so I'm just so thrilled that we have this", reports the Mirror.
Article continues belowWhilst Chris was absent during this pivotal moment, he later articulated his joy in snagging the prize on social media, half-joking about the possibility of a fall-out if both did not receive their own trophy from the BAFTA celebrations. He took to Instagram to explain to his fans why he could not be present to personally accept the commendation.
In an enthusiastic video, he announced: "We only went and won a BAFTA! I'm very proud of her representing the two of us. Her speech was amazing. I'm actually in Warrington, I've had two shows here today and these are the shows I cancelled to do Strictly.... I couldn't exactly cancel a second time to go to the BAFTAs, could I?"
"And to be honest I thought Gavin and Stacey could win! Thank you so much for voting. I just hope we get two of them or me and Dianne are going to fall out trying to share that thing aren't we!" The celebratory clip was captured amidst the buzz of his theatre team.

The couple's moment of glory outshone televised moments from The Traitors, Rivals, Bridgerton, Gavin and Stacey as well as Mr Bates vs The Post Office. This year, however, marks a departure for Strictly Come Dancing which has missed out on the Best Entertainment Programme nomination for the first time since its inception.

Last year, Amanda Abbington made accusations last year claiming she faced "inappropriate, mean, nasty bullying" within a "toxic environment" when participating in Strictly in 2023. The BBC found "some, but not all" of her allegations regarding her dance partner Giovanni Pernice – consistently denied by Pernice – to be valid.
Kicking off the Bafta TV Awards ceremony with a nod to the Traitors, Alan Cumming donned the series' signature dark cloak amidst the stunning backdrop of a Scottish Highlands castle. The "devilishly handsome" Cumming, known for hosting the American version of Traitors, was dramatically summoned to the Traitor turret where he received his mission: to host this year's Bafta TV Awards.
