Actors Marisa Abela and Danny Dyer were among the biggest winners at this yearâs Bafta TV Awards, which took place on May 11th.
The ceremony, held at the Royal Festival Hall in London, celebrated the best of British TV in the last year, with Abelaâs Industry and Dyerâs Mr Bigstuff among the top winners.
Becoming emotional in her acceptance speech for the âLeading Actressâ award, Abela said that the third series of the HBO/BBC drama, in which she plays business graduate Yasmin Kara-Hanani, âfelt like a massive step up for the show and I feel like that is continuing and continuing,â before revealing, âI am excited to see the response season four gets, which we are filming right now.â
Elsewhere, in a profanity-laden speech which had to be heavily censored before it was broadcast on the BBC, Dyer said during his acceptance speech for âMale Performance in a Comedyâ: âI want to thank Sky for giving our show a shot. Fucking hell, Iâm choked up.â
The actor added that he was surprised to receive the award, exclaiming: âWhat a touch! Comedy performance. I thought my acting was so bad it was funny.â
Aside from Abela and Dyer, some of the other most significant winners of the night included Jessica Gunning for her critically acclaimed role as stalker Martha in Netflix drama Baby Reindeer, written by Richard Gadd.
Other huge TV hits of 2024 also collected awards, such as ITV drama Mr Bates Vs the Post Office for âLimited Dramaâ, and Ruth Jones for her role as Nessa Jenkins in Gavin and Stacey: The Finale, which scored the actor the award for âFemale Performance in a Comedyâ.
