For over a decade, hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs’ relationship with singer Cassie Ventura was one of the music industry’s most closely watched and mysterious partnerships. What began as a professional collaboration between a rising R&B star and the powerful mogul behind Bad Boy Records evolved into a long-term romance shrouded in speculation. Now, we’re looking back at their 2015 Met Gala appearance, as viewers noticed an odd interaction between the couple.

The Met Gala calls for celebrities to arrive at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City in absolute glitz and glamour. The invitation-only charity gala has a theme each year. In 2015, famous folks arrived in fashion that reflected the theme of China: Through the Looking Glass, which explored how Chinese art influenced Western culture.

Sean “Diddy” Combs and Casandra “Cassie” Ventura turned heads at the 2015 event. Combs, dressed in a sleek black tuxedo with his signature cool confidence, complemented Ventura’s edgy elegance. Though they didn’t walk the red carpet side by side, their presence at the star-studded event reinforced their status as a formidable duo. However, behind the flashbulbs, their relationship was far more complex.

A video shared by Vogue shows Combs and Ventura answering questions from interviewer André Leon Talley. The first few seconds of the 2015 clip have people talking in 2025. Combs pleaded not guilty to racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution charges. Ventura will testify against him.

“What a beautiful dress,” Talley tells Ventura as she shakes his hand. Combs stands to the side and stares at Ventura as if nervous she might say something.

“Look at his crazy eyes at one second,” a viewer commented. “Lord, Cassie, we believe you!!!!”

“Check how Diddy INSTINCTIVELY and immediately made a punching gesture at Andre’s face at 0:01 when he complimented Cassie on ‘what a beautiful dress.’ He is hopelessly fragile,” another viewer wrote.

“He snatched her waist, and I also saw how he looked at her,” yet another viewer wrote. “This is pure control.”

Casandra “Cassie” Ventura worked closely on projects with Sean “Diddy” Combs through the years. In 2015, Combs and Ventura made headlines with the provocative ad campaign for his fragrance “3AM,” which featured the couple in a series of steamy, high-intensity scenes. The short film directed by Combs sparked controversy for its explicit imagery. It showed the pair in intimate moments that blurred the lines between art, marketing, and voyeurism.

“How can we get a tape of this?” interviewer André Leon Talley asked Ventura at the Met Gala.

“I’m going to send it to you,” Combs stepped in as Ventura nervously laughed. “I will email it to you.”

Talley then complimented Combs on “constantly crushing the glass ceiling.”

“I’m blessed to be in this industry,” Combs added, “and just try to blend it with my artistry.”

Casandra “Cassie” Ventura chose not to use a pseudonym to testify against Sean “Diddy” Combs. Ventura first alleged that Combs abused her in 2023. She filed a lawsuit alleging physical and sexual abuse. In May 2024, CNN released hotel surveillance footage from 2016 that showed Combs beating her in the lobby. Now, she returns to share her story in Combs’ May 2025 trial.

“She is prepared to testify under her own name,” the filing states, according to People. “Victim-2, Victim-3, and Victim-4 have asked that their identities not be revealed to the press or the public.”
