Late Queen was 'as angry as I'd ever seen her' over Lilibet name, aid says
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's daughter Lilibet celebrated her fourth birthday, but there was controversy when her name was announced as the Queen was reportedly "as angry as I'd ever seen her"
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle marked their youngest daughter Princess Lilibet's fourth birthday yesterday (Wednesday, June 4). The little princess, affectionately known as Lili, was born on this day in sunny California in 2021, just over a year after her parents took big brother Prince Archie to start a new life across the pond after quitting as working royals.
Her arrival came hot on the heels of Harry and Meghan's explosive chat with Oprah Winfrey, with Meghan heavily pregnant during the interview. Upon Lili's birth, the Sussexes shared that her name was a heartfelt tribute to both the late Queen and Harry's beloved mother Princess Diana, with Diana being the tot's middle name.
However, it's been reported that the couple's choice to name their daughter Lilibet left the late Queen feeling as though they had taken something uniquely hers.
At the time of Lilibet's birth, Harry and Meghan announced she would carry the late monarch's childhood family nickname as her first name. A representative for the couple maintained that Harry had discussed this with his grandmother beforehand and wouldn't have chosen the name if the Queen hadn't been supportive.
Yet, in his biography King Charles, royal author Robert Hardman suggests the late Queen was less than pleased with Harry and Meghan's decision to name their daughter Lilibet in 2021, and their assertion that they had sought her approval, reports the Mirror.

According to the Daily Mail, the late Queen was deeply troubled by a particular incident, reportedly confiding to her aides: "I don't own the palaces, I don't own the paintings, the only thing I own is my name. And now they've taken that."
In Robert's revealing book, a staff member recalls Queen Elizabeth II's intense anger following Harry and Meghan's 2021 announcement about using her childhood nickname 'Lilibet'. The BBC later reported that a Palace source claimed the Queen had not been consulted by the Sussexes about using the name Lilibet.
However, the Sussexes' legal team quickly sent out letters to the broadcaster and other media outlets, stating that the allegation was both false and defamatory.
Robert, however, claims the Queen's aides painted a very different picture. "One privately recalled that Elizabeth II had been 'as angry as I'd ever seen her' in 2021 after the Sussexes announced she had given them her blessing to call their baby daughter 'Lilibet'"
The author said Buckingham Palace then refused attempts by Harry and Meghan to confirm their version of events. "When the Sussexes tried to co-opt the palace into propping up their version of events, they were rebuffed," he writes.
The nickname Lilibet originated when Princess Elizabeth was just a toddler who couldn't quite pronounce her own name correctly. Her grandfather, King George V, would lovingly call her Lilibet, echoing her attempts to say Elizabeth, and the endearing nickname remained within the family circles ever since.

Last week, Meghan Markle subtly referred to a past disagreement while praising Sara Blakely, the shapewear founder and mother of four, on her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder.
In their conversation, they touched upon the challenges of naming a business, with Meghan revealing she chose 'As Ever' for her lifestyle brand. She candidly advised expectant parents on name choices, saying: "Don't ask anyone's opinion."
Meghan spoke about the struggle for "everyone's approval" when picking a brand name, commenting: "You're like: 'What do you think?'"
She continued with advice for future mothers worldwide: "It's no different - I will say this to every woman in the world or every person in the world who's going to have a child - if you have an idea about what you are going to name that baby, you keep it so close to your heart until that baby is born and it's named. Don't ask anyone's opinion."
The Sussexes' daughter, now a princess since her grandfather became king, was born in California on June 4, 2021. Meghan delighted fans by sharing personal photos of Lili on her fourth birthday.

The Duchess posted a touching black-and-white image of herself holding Lili on her lap, both enjoying a breezy moment, possibly aboard a boat.
The second snap captured Meghan lovingly holding newborn Lili – who arrived in 2021 – as she cherished the skin-to-skin contact with her latest family member. Meghan wrote: "Happy birthday to our beautiful girl! Four years ago today she came into our lives – and each day is brighter and better because of it. Thanks to all of those sending love and celebrating her special day!"
